“SPOONPLUGGING BASICS” SEMINAR

A seminar titled “Spoonplugging Basics” will be presented at the Grand Rapids Sports, Fishing, and RV Show at DeVos Place on Friday March 18 and Saturday March 19 by Chase Klinesteker. Both presentations will be in Fishing Stage D at 8:00PM. This seminar describes a simple, orderly, and precise manner in which to fish for all gamefish species on all types of waters. Knowledge about fish movements, structure, weather, water, controls, and presentation of lures is the key to more successful fishing results. Chase Klinesteker is a Certified Spoonplugging Instructor from Buck Perrys’ Spoonplugging Training Center In Hickory, NC. Come and hear about a different but very effective approach to fishing!

Boy, thats a blast from the past. I didn't know they still made them. For those that don't know, Buck Perry more or less invented structure fishing.

Perry taught some of our best anglers--Lindners, Winkelman, Martin, Dance, Petros, etc.--how to attack fishing situations. His lessons still apply today (thank God the fish haven't changed since the 1960s), although some of the basic assertions have been scientifically proven to be less than accurate. His most basic assertion, "Deep water is the home of the fish," for example, works for some species but not others. Also, tracking studies have proven that different groups of largemouth bass within the same lake will use different core areas. Some are deep fish, some are shallow, weed fish.

In the end, though, his teachings put anglers on fish, still. Spoonplugging creates guidelines for anglers to follow on the water, but knowledge is only half the half of it. The other half is motivation, and the drive to apply the information. This is where, of the hundreds-of-thousands who have been introduced to his work, the vast majority have failed to put Perry's words to effective use.
