Just got off the cell phone with my bud. He and a friend are the only ones parked at the end of Ericson Road this morning. My bud has a polaris (Big Bore) high profile Quad, and pulls a sled with his shanty on top. He said his were the first and only tracks going out. Said he had to go (Balls to the wall) to stay on top a little and keep going. He still got stuck twice on the way out. Said snow now has deep drifts and a wet layer, similar to last years nightmare scenerio.

Thanks for the report. Thinking on going next week. Keeping an eye on the reports.

Will this impede sleds or only quads? It sounds like it may be time for the guys with the sleds to do their thing. I am still in a quandry on the decision to buy a sled or a quad in the off season, and I keep thinking a sled may be more useful for ice fishing (although it would not have the many uses of a quad during war weather).

If it's at all like last years mess, it will impede both quads and sleds. Your quandry is the same as mine was. Of course this was before I decided to do ice charters. Few things have the tourge and pulling power that a quad does. Gear boxes and axles hold up much better under pulling a load than does rubber drive belts. And I'd never be able to plow my driveway with a snowmobile. But it's times like these I wonder if SkiDo still makes those nice little/cheap "Elan" single cylindars. Just enough to haul my own **** out for that last ice/pre spawn bite.

It's times like this a $200 snowmobile can blow right by a $8000 fully rigged 4 wheeler, Kinda funnny how it works sometimes

It was around 8:30am when he called, and they had just settled down in their shanties after getting set up. This fact alone tells me they had a tough time of it. As they are the kind of guys who are usually already fishing by daylight, so I know they had some tough going.
