I just joined your forum and I am planning on deleting a few of the coyotes in south Georgia but first, I need information from the Pros. What is the effective range of a .22 Mag on coyotes. What is the best bullet? I have been shooting golf balls at a 100 yards with 40 grain Winchesters but does it have the killing power needed at that range? Is the lighter V-Max or the 50 grain Federal better? Should I scrap the .22 Mag idea and dust off the .243 or my 7 mag with 140 grain bullets? Just how effective are the moving decoys?
Thanks in advance.

this is one of those ?? many differant opins i would say 75-100 yards day time.the reason a lot of the guys here use the mag is for night time hunting.if i was going daytime the ops are endless i would not use the mag.but if thats the gun in the bag the new remington bullet is good for me.cci is ok winchester suck in my they just seem slow but thats just my 2cents.if you can place the shot good.you'll put him down at 100yrds all day.but remember unless your shooting moving golf ball it's not a easy shot they dont sit still  it's all about what you feel good with its all about havin fun

I agree with Splicer, 100 yds or less. I'm not keen on a .22 mag. for coyote but know what MI law is especially with night hunting.

a bit much. Ive used hand loads in my 7Rem mag [115 hp] and they turned every fox inside out [before I cared about saving pelts]. 243s are nice with a quick frag Hp [70gr Speer TnT] works nice.
Also the 223, and 22 Hornet, 218 bee some of those work well also.

If legal I would use your centerfire.....as everyone will suggest the only reason we carry the .22mag is cause of the letter of the law. Not that it hasn't killed its fair share of yotes. You just need to really make good shot placement and try not to hit hte shoulder. Good luck

Love that .218 Bee. Have yet to decide on my next rifle. Don't have a .243. To much unknown yet on the .204 . Barrel burner? Already have a 223 but not unlike me to add another. After all it's not what need it's what you want.:D

burner. Its not like a 22-250 as far as a huge amount of powder is concerned. Based on the 222 case it uses the powder more efficiently. Ballistics are pretty impressive also.

Hey Huntsman27, has there been a verdict yet on the feasability of the .204 for coyote as far as creating more runners than dropping them? I love the sounds of this new round and wouldn't mind using it as an all around varmint rifle. Been trying to keep up with posts here and what they say. Don't know if there has been an article written anywhere about it's real capabilities as far as what game.

I feel 125 yards is extreme effective HUNTING range for the .22 WMR; you better know your distance because bullet drop gets quite severe after 100. If it is a breezy day you have to factor in quite a bit of windage as well.

I wouldnt hesitate to use it. Lots of fellows use the 17Rem and it works well too. I think its more a case of shot placement myself.
