Last night I talked my buddy who lives next to Lymans. He said a person brought in a pike that was 41" and fat this week. What a monster. Wish I had a pic. Funny thing is it was a caught by a couple of.... girls!

Moral of the story is we all just got schooled by a couple of girls.

Specifics were they have been getting fish in front of Lymans, but work your way south to where Funtime is and go 1/2 as far as Lymans shanties and that is where they are getting the bigger fish. The same girls caught 1/2 dozen around 30" last week.

Thats a nice fish for sure!

Speaking of girls and northern pike. Check out this 44 incher caught by a customer of mine from Wyoming. I just got it in the mail today. Has some great markings.

When I was growing up we used to have a cabin up on old trail drive, and when we would walk the beach afte ice out we would find absolutely huge dead pike.

I'm still waiting to see a picture of the houghton lake pike. 41 inches should put it 18-22 pounds.

Here's a link to a 41" from last week...not sure if it's the same fish, but my guess would be yes. Seems as though lately there have been quite a few dandies pulled through the ice on Houghton...wrong time of the year and everything??

I don't think 41" will put it anywhere around 20lbs. Maybe 15 lbs. from the look of the picture. My father caught a 39" very fat northern in the UP a few years ago and I would of thought it would be at least 17/18 lbs, only ended up being a little over 13 lbs.

the 35'' we catch weigh 12-13lbs what is your opinio Anyone that catches a 40'' piken based on, the fish in the picture was 41'' and right halfway between 18-22 at 20lbs. Anyone that catches a 40'' pike this time of year that does not make 18lbs it's somewhat of a sorry fish

So a 40" 17 lb pike would be a sorry fish? Sure hope I don't catch one ;)

Not the same fish judging from location and who caught it. Still another nice whopper of a pike though. The one I spoke of above was caught in front of Funtime and 1/4 mile out. Most of the shanty's are further out than that around Funtime so apparently they set up kinda by themselves.

BTW I've seen skinny males 35"+ this time of year that kinda had you scratching your head wondering if something was wrong with them.

I am just trying to state a fact that this time of year the females are full of egg's and are very fat and for 41'' 18-22 lbs would be the average weight for a pike. My opinion is not based on the one my dad caught one time( probally not even in the winter) , but from the many we catch and the ones I have seen caught through the ice. And just like the houghton lake picture it was right there in the middle at 20lbs

What would a pike that size eat for dinner? Unwanted tax colectors?

bigberniegb, not sure if that is a real question or not but I'll coin in anyway. We fish with the largest minnows we can get and do pretty good most of the time. The bigger the better. Live or dead smelt, 12" suckers, a baby duckling (just kidding).

Sorry, I was not trying to say any fish that was 41" could not be 20 lbs. I was referring to the picture of that fish. I personally have caught two and seen many other 20 lb notherns caught through the ice on Portage Lk in the UP and it is my personally opinion that the pike in that picture has been rounded up to 20 lbs. Just doesn't look like a 20lb fish to me. Didn't mean to get you all worked up.

a baby duckling (just kidding).

Hey, they've got a sale on those right now a Tractor Supply. Get there quick, 'cause they're growing fast!

A guy I knew many years ago swore that kittens were the best thing going for muskie bait on soft water. Tie a 3/0 treble on their collar and then troll away from them....I don't think it mattered what color of collar--or maybe crackle frog was the best. I hope he was kidding :yikes:

Go into a petshop with full fishing gear on and ask for 6 kittens and put them in a bucket with holes on the top.
