Hello all,

This is my first of hopefully many posts on this board.

The ice is in great shape with 24-28" of good clear ice. The fishing has been good for numbers of fish. Two guys can have days of 100-300 fish caught, with a limit of 8-12" fish the norm with a few of the big 12-14" fish mixed in. We should see the Jumbo's move into the bay in the next week or two bringing in the 12-15" fish.

Take care and be safe out there.

Dave Tighe

Heah Daveyboy, what hut outfitter do you own?

If he/she said what operator they were (if they are), then that would be advertisement - maybe he/she is just trying to be helpful...

I don't want to advertise here on the board. So send me an e-mail for info.

Thanks,

Just had a feeling. Guess I was right. Great Report. And it is accurate. Guy's that know what there doing on the Bay are doing well this year. Good luck to anyone who uses an outfitter. Just remember one thing, the fish aren't paid by the outfitter's. The fish aren't like pet's, they don't come back to the same spot each day for there meals. Always be prepaired to move around the bay. An outfitter can get you out off shore, provide you with bait and a base camp (so to speak) for the day but if the fish aren't there, at the hut, then move out away from the hut. No outfitter will tell ya you can't leave the hut. Just be sure to be there for the bus ride in or it'll be a long walk back.

Dave, how much snow you have on the ice up there. Can a fella still get around on a quad?

There are some bare spots, but most of the bay has 4-8" with some drifts as high as 24" around fish huts etc. Quads are OK still but watch for the drifts.

Starting to see a lot of this. But I gotta tell ya, a couple years ago there was an unpaid advertise like this one. And of course a couple follow-ups from new members. One member was even sort of a regular poster but as it turned out it was the same guy with many accounts... so beware what you read is sometimes a thread containing 5 posts from the same guy under different names.

Well said Banditto. Back door advertising is still advertising. If you pay you can stay if not adios. Right Steve?

I guess this could technically fall under the definition as an advertisement. However, I appretiate Dave's report as there are many on this site who are constantly asking about how the fishing up at Cook's is right now. I also would like to add that I've been up to Simcoe 5 times this winter and have gone out of Davies Point each time. Dave has helped us out with locations of fish, lodging, bars and restaurants. His info has always been dead on and I will always go through him when I visit Cooks. His minnow counts are unbelievable and for all of you who like to bring your own gear but don't have transportation, he will pull you out onto the ice for $5. I'll be up there again this Friday and Saturday and look foreward to buying more minnows from Dave. This is a guy worth giving your business to. Just my 2 cents.

I am trying my best not to advertise for free on this site. I just found the site a little while ago, and want to share info. If you look at my replies they are non specific and just to the point.
I will consider advertising here, but with all advertising I am going to watch and use the site for a little while before making a decision to pay for an ad.

I will do my best to keep the appearance of my threads to be ad free. If you have a specific question about my business, then please P.M. me or e-mail me directly.

By the way, I would never consider having more than one account on a forum. I have nothing to hide and do not see the need to beef my threads up.

Thanks and be safe out there.

Davy,

Because there have been people in the past that have tried to be very subtle about getting their advertising on this site without paying some members are skeptical about someone just trying to help out with some good advice when they could potentially benefit from it.

As you can see, the administration has said nothing and won’t until it becomes obvious. Your reply was well stated and you will find that many people will welcome you as a member. The idea that people will use more than one account or get their friends to make positive remarks has been done before so just don’t label us as paranoid, lol, as I prefer to call it being a little sensitive.

Join the discussions and get to know some of the members. Most people know that Lake Simcoe has excellent fishing and many people on this site go there and many more are considering going. If you do decide to advertise sometime and you provide the members with good service and honest advice it will be money well spent.

Davey, still running people out post the removal of your shanties - 3/19/05? Planning a trip with my son next week. A group of friends and I used your huts ealier in the season had a great time... we all caught fish that weekend! In fact we even made the news when Guetto took a reporter and camera man out to our shanty for some inside info - it was a riot.... Is Guetto still working? -

15" perch?

Hello all,

We should see the Jumbo's move into the bay in the next week or two bringing in the 12-15" fish.

There are 15" perch in Lake Simcoe. I usually see at least 6-12 fish per year in the 15" range, they tip the scales at 2lbs +. Your best shot at these bruisers is late in March and into April (ice permitting).

The ice is very rough right now after the rain early this week so moving around is a little slow unless you don't mind the bumps. ATV's and trucks are the vehicles of choice right now. The fish are coming in and getting ready to stage near the rivers. We are seeing good catches in many different depths ranging from 14-45 fow. Small baits including spikes, wigglers and many different jigs are working well. I am getting reports of people using Jiggin' Raps and Jacks for the larger fish, but sacrificing the steady bite to use them.

Burnsie, I think you mean Guido, but he is no longer with me. We still go out until the ice is no longer safe.

I was there Mon. and Tues. and had terrible weather but the fishing was pretty good. 4 of us brought home just under 400 perch , most were 8 to 10 in. with a few bigger ones. On Mon I only had 12 fish by 3:00, by 6:00 I had my 50 and threw back 35 more that were keepers but I was keeping the better ones. Lots of fun!!!

Best baits for me was a small black rat finky below a glow hali and a small black spider above that, both with spikes. My other rod was a small green glow jig on the bottom with a minnow and a small brown jig with a small brown plastic with 2 spikes. 15 ft of water was our best both days. At times there were so many fish on the camera it looked like bees down there. I hope to be going back atleast one more time. Oh yea!! we were on the west side of Cooks Bay. Good Luck and tight lines!!!!:fish:

I've been fishing simcoe for about 8 years. I've never pulled up a 15"er. I've seen many a 12, and even 13", and a hand full of 14"ers too. There's a big difference from 12 to 14, and even bigger from 14 to 15. 15" is huge! (yah that's what she said) Take a tape measure next time. All those 14"ers you think you've got, it's more like 12" - 12 1/2".

12, 13, 15 or 24, it don't matter though. There's nothing like pulling up a Simcoe hog. I'm pumped everytime I do!
