Has anyone tried/owned this motor yet? If so, please provide feedback.
I bought one late fall and have had it out for 1 trial run. I got a good deal, for my $ I'd give it 4 of 5 stars.
On my 14' aluminum loaded (2 guys) I was able to do 10-12mph (depending on wind speed and GPS vs. water speed). Much quieter and more powerful than my 7.5hp 2-stroke (which wasn't all that healthy). Easy starter, doesn't appear to cool real quickly. Be mindful of transom height recommendation as it is fairly heavy for a 5er.
Overall I was fairly pleased. I got home and had to torque down some stuff that made me wonder about the future (muffler shroud lost a screw, etc.).Tiller handle has a tin rattle to it that I'm going to try to dampen. Hope this helps.

I have 1. I really like it but it has a couple drawbacks. Kinda loud, has an above average vibration and rattle. Pluses, it burns VERY little gas, its very light, 4 stroke, starts easily and always, has a nice camo finish. I feel I got a very dependable good motor for the money. I am however upgrading my current duck hunting rig to a much bigger boat and motor. I have 3 oil changes and a lower unit oil change on my motor and it is just past the "Break In" point. I really want to keep the little guy but I wont really have a use for it after the new rig comes home. If you are interested in one that is just broke in let me know we may be able to work a deal.

One thing about them is that repair parts for the motor should be cheaper than 'traditional' outboards.
I would think one of these would be great on about a 10-12 foot johnboat for a duck hunting and river fishing setup.

I bought one for last season duck hunting. Took it out of the box on to the boat in to the swamp, started right up, then I shut it off loaded up the boat took the motor off the boat, back into the box and sent it back. I could not hear my self think it was so loud.

Steve, Loud for a 4 stroke or louder than a comparable two stroke in the same HP range? Just curious...thought about one for a little 12 footer I have.

I have yet to get my grubby paws on one.But I would not expect them to be as silent or smooth as a yami or merc 4-stroke, I would expect them to sound like a lawnmower.
I would expect it to start every time and hold up fairly well,,Id also be willing to bet it would hold up to neglect fairly well(the powerhead anyway).
I think it's the old "you get what you pay for",,, youknow, I don't think you could get a Tohatsu 2-stroke for the price of a briggs.
But I am curious as to what kinds of provisions they made for say changing the oil in the crankcase?

the muffler is just a little can type just like a 99.00 dollar walk mower . so at 4000.rpm your looking at about 80 to 86 db. plus you have a hot muffler setting just off to one side of the motor . Most of us are not use to having that and may grab some thing hot when getting in or out plus loading the boat at the end of a long day and just not think all that smart . But plus is it is a B&S Intek lawn mower motor so parts on the engine are less then outboard parts ( coil has a rev limiter at 4000rpm ) lawn mower motor version do not . so that part is boat motor only. sorry for the bad spelling . hope that help you decide in buying or not. steve k8vol.

Maybe the next version they'll upgrade the muffler and add a heat shield. Seems like it would have some good applications, but I can understand not wanting an 85 dB lawnmower at arms length for a 15 minute ride to your huntin/fishin spot.
