Every year, for the past 34 years the last thurs, fri, and sat. in february a group (now 24+) of us go icefishing somewhere. The last 5 years we fished Houghton, but the last 2 years the fishing has been terrible. We mostly fish for gills, pike and perch. The problem we have with a group this size is trying to find room for everyone. I'm looking for a lodge or resort that has at least 1 large place that sleeps 10 or 12 that is big enough that we can all get together in for meals and cards and things. and a couple of smaller places mainly for sleeping. Or 1 large place that would sleep all of us would be great. We are open for anywhere in the nothern lower part of the state. If anyone knows where there is something like that, Please let me know.
Thanks

There is a place in Fife Lake near Kalkaska that has some cabins,I think the name of the place is called Logs resort,me and a bunch of buddies rented a few cabins when we were up there doing some deer hunting. It's right on the lake and they get Walleye in there too if you like to catch them plus all of your panfish.

There is a place in Indian River called Hide-Away Lodge that should be able to accomodate your group. Not sure exactly how many they can handle, but I don't think it would be a problem with your group. This will put you within minutes of Burt and Mullett Lakes, and not too far from Crooked or Black Lakes. The number is 231-238-4442.
Good luck!!

If your still going to the Houghton Lake area and have a large group I'd suggest looking into "Shea's Lodge", right on M-55 in Prudenville. The new owners renamed it "East Bay Lodge" but the big sign out on M-55 still say's "Shea's"
Here's a link to it as well as one from the HLCOC, they have a lot of information about lodging and such under the "Business Directory" section.

Good Luck! Post a report when you get back!

Burksee - Shea's is where we stay on Houghton and they do accomadate us well, just looking to find new water.
Jeffk - We were at Houghton last weekend. 24guys fished 3 days ==
3 - 30" pike
15 or so panfish
30 smelt off higgins (3 people)
14 of us even went to Manistee lake. We caught most of our fish there but it was still slow fishing. I saw a resort there also. Does anyone know if they are open in the winter?
