How many morning doves does it take to make a meal? And what are some ways of cooking them? I was hoping they would have had some at the wild game dinner I went to Saturday. Maybe next year.

on how hungry you are.I myself could probably eat maybe 6-10 breasts as they arent very big [like woodcock, quail]. They are tasty though. I like to season them spicy and BBQ them. Very good with some garlic taters and a veggie dish.

I'll put back a dozen if I'm hungry.
When you breat the birds, save their hearts and put them aside.
Wrap breasts with one strip of bacon, season to taste. Grill medium heat until just pink along the breast bone.
Saute the hearts with mushrooms and a touch of garlic in butter.
Place breasts on bed of rice, I like long grain wild. Cover breasts and rice with heart/mushrooms. Eat.
Dove has a very mild, pleasant taste that I enjoy immensely. I feel that sauces and too much smoke cover it up too much and detract from the culinary experience.

My mom used to make dove pie for me all the time. Its just like chicken pot pie but dove meat is used. This is a tasty little mill.

When I lived in Texas we would go dove hunting and the best part was the meal afterwards. We would take the breast and cut a small slit in the side and stuff some jalapeno's in the slit. Then wrap the breast in bacon and barbaque on the grill. Basting the breast with your favorite barbaque sauce. Those were the best tasting birds I have ever eaten.:woohoo1:
