I did not get a chance to see the whole show. Too busy helping my boys prep their pinewood derby cars. But listening to it in the background I have to think it was one of his better shows in months, if not years.

Anyone see the whole thing or was I have a flashback?

Is this in reference to the past show, or Fred in general.

In general I agree, he has really sucked the past few years.

I would like a show to be informative (like this site). Where you can walk away and feel you learned something and not wasted your time.

Law tidbits don't count, because laws are written so enigmatically (close cousin of ambiguously) that they can always be interpreted either way).

From what I could hear of the show, it sounded like he was giving so good info.

Again nothing compares to the quality of information provided by this board. If this board could be turned into a show, that would be great.

Too many of shows promote unrealistic expectations. MOOD will occasionally air an episode where they get nothing, but most shows almost every deer drops in its place or are so easy to find. Some will go from mid afternoon daylight, to walking up on the deer in pitch dark (camera position on the opposite side of the deer as the hunter approaches). How about a tracking episode to teach some hunter the better ways to track and how and where to look to find that one drop of blood, blood direction, or how to analyze where the deer was shot by inspecting the arrow. All these topics are discussed here, but the pictures would just ice it.

Sorry for the long run-on, and I have to get back to work, so I don't have much time to check the grammar. So forgive my prose.

Both, I guess. In his last show he talked about how every other show was about 7 things he was totally against commercialism, competition, yadda, yadda and how they have caused the hunting culture to change and him not being able hunt the same places, blah, blah, blah..............

I couldn't help to think back to the show where he was hunting at a farm that instiuted a 4 point to a side rule, he shot a six point "near dark" and couldn't understand why he wasn't asked back.

I have to laugh when guys blame everyone else but themselves.

Where the hell is there another show like the old Mort Neff programing???? I think it would be GREAT if they had THOSE re-runs on the air,.. I'd watch em' EVERY week ! :D

Just about every show out now is more program commercials and product plugs for one thing or the other,.... with POOR programing material to boot.

Zumbo has some good ones but they arn't aired that often.

the truth. I used to love that show. Another used to be the old American Sportsman with Curt Gowdy. Of course that was before the networks all went anti hunting. The good old days!

Ahhhh, yes,... that WAS another of the GOOD ones!!

I'd rather watch the reruns of either of those older shows over and over again than to watch the stuff they have on the airways now. As MUCH as I love hunting,.. and I DO try to watch the programs out now they just DO NOT compare in any shape, way, or form to those older shows.

Those WERE good HONEST shows with honest to goodness outdoor filming,...
I MISS them dearly,....

I guess Fred had some people write him about last weeks show. Something about a comment he made about there being no Easter Bunny.GEEEEZZZ!

Yeh, even Fred said if you don't like what he has to offer, change the channel. It is obvious that he is not in touch with the outdoorsmen of this state (not to practical) and only wants to produce what he wants to produce. And that is his right. So, it is commical during pledge weeks when he says the outdoor shows need more pledges to stay on. He has already lost the local late night time slot. Soon he will loose the Sat. reruns.

Wow Fred. Last's weeks show wasn't as bad as it normally was --- But this week's pledge drive show....wow...terrible!

I'm becoming a little concerned for Fred. I believe he's lost touch (not just with his viewers) but with reality (the "easter bunny" Fred? - You spent time on your show - responding multiple times - to comments about the easter bunny?!). The show and the breaks were generally pretty odd. I noticed, towards the end, that even his pledge break co-host was starting to tire of him.

His comment regarding "I can't show the viewers any other ways to catch bluegills than I have in the past" is way off the mark. There are young viewers who would very much enjoy watching the outdoor sports in action and "couch hunters and fishermen" who enjoy watching the outdoor sports - even when the participant is a non-expert such as Fred (maybe even because he is a non-expert - providing a more realistic portrayal of the outdoors than those other shows that let the "little 150 class" deer walk).

Fred shouldn't lament the lack of young people participating in the outdoors when he does nothing to encourage them to participate. I am one example of someone who was not brought up in a hunting/fishing family. As a youngster, I learned by watching others and having some help along the way from friends. I even learned a few things from Fred and his guests on early shows. I imagine myself as a youngster today relying in part on Fred's show to teach me some tricks about the outdoors. Instead of learning by watching others, I'd be listening to the rants of an angry old man complaining about the DNR and the lack of "thinking" sportsman in Michigan. Sheesh!...where's that playstation?

His comments regarding "the thinking outdoorsman" were equally odd. Sometimes people escape the big issues of the world by enjoying nature...I'm one of them. While I am interested and concerned about the outdoors and the rights of sportsman, there are enough problems in the world to think and worry about without having them predominate my enjoyment of the outdoors. Give it a rest Fred! Having a J.D. doesn't necessarily make you a 'thinking man's thinking man' - trust me, I know.

Yes, I can change the channel and stop watching (and stop writing about his terrible show). But, secretly, I actually hope that Fred lurks in this forum of "thinking people" and reads our concerns. Doubt he'll actually change what he's doing...but one never knows. Even if he doesn't, watching him come completely apart more and more each week is mildly entertaining.

Same time next week.... :)
