I've heard of a camp in michigan that will help with transporting wheelchair bound hunters into the woods from the camp site. Has anyone heard of such a place. I would appreciate the help. davarno7@aol.com
Thanks Dave

Dave,

Welcome to the site!

I'm not familiar with the camp you're referencing, but I'm sure there'll be some others here on the board who can point you in the right direction.

:yeahthat:

Dave, I don't know if you are asking for yourself or not, but if you are unsuccessful in finding this camp I'm sure you would find some members here who would be willing to help you out.

i may be wrong but wasn't there a thread on here regarding an upland hunt for those in wheelchairs not too long ago? i think it was in the upland/bird dog training portion. even if your speaking of deer hunting and not bird hunting i would bet the folks that did the upland hunt could point in the right direction.

hope this helps

Dave, welcome to the site! You'll find this place and the people that visit here very helpful.

You might want to check with the NWTF...any of the Michigan chapters. I think they have, or have access to a couple of modified Utility vehicles such as the Polaris Rangers etc that they use to help those with disibilities. I have either seen them on a local show, or read about them in a local magazine. Either way, they can put you into contact with a few resources as well I'm sure.

Is this for you or a family member, if you don't mind me asking? Lots of good people here, I doubt finding help getting someone into the woods or on the water that wants to be there would ever be a problem! ;)

David,
Check out this website
http://www.disabledhunting.net/
Looks like it has some great info with access to a bunch of websites directed at disabled hunters. It doesn't answer your question about the Michigan Camp, but it looks like a good resource for general information anyway. Might point ya in the right direction.

Here's another...

Welcome Dave! Swamp Monster is correct The NWTF has the Wheeling Sportsman. I realy don't know how they work it, but I could get you a contact that does. Our chapter did have the most members of the Whelling Sportsmen last year. Send me a PM and I will get you a Ph # or got to www.NWTF.org (http://www.NWTF.org) .

I am not sure of the camp you are asking about but I found a place a few miles from my house and it is state land with a wheelchair trail and nice big permanent blinds. There are lots of turkeys and deer in the area. I would definately help someone if our schedules were compatable.

I do not know what you are talking about specifically but I think there is a disabled hunt in the shiawasee nat refuge each year and that is worth looking into because that is where the monsters roam :yikes: Really I would look if I were you.

If anyone is interested, there is a handicap access and blind at Harsens Island Wildlife Management that is in a cropped zone. Michigan Duck Hunters Association designed, got approval, secured funding for this access. It is a great opportunity to get someone in a chair duck hunting safely.
