Went out on saturday hoping for a great night. Got out on the ice around 3:30 and walked out to my spot. Very nice day, 6 pack, and all supplies to make a great night!

cut hole #1 no problems
hole #2 blade falls off auger and can't find another screw
never try to cut a hole with one blade. It took me forever to cut holes 2 and 3. Didn't even bother with a tip up.

Go to set the shanty up and it's completly frozen, but I do finally get it set up. Put all of my stuff inside and then realize that the zippers are completly frozen down so there is no zipping it up. start the lantern up to try and get some heat on the shanty and free up the zippers. This works with a little time but still not able to zip the doors completly up.

Sit and start fishing with perch nibbling my bait and I was able to pul one up. Just about a half hour after sunset my fuel runs out and I realize that I left my new spare bottle of fuel at home.

What a complete waste of energy and time!

I'm curious as to what brand auger you were using. I've seen two other cases of blades falling off on augers and going down to the bottom of the lake. Both of those augers were the same make and model and one was brand new that week.

Hey, wasn't too bad. You didn't get skunked and that 6 pack stayed nice and cold. :)

The moral of the story is every once in awhile you gotta check your nuts

The blade fell off my 8 inch strikemaster lazer too last week. Better yet, it fell off just before finishing the first hole. The blade is now on the bottom in 65 fow. It's hard enough to cut through 20 inches of ice with an 8 inch hand auger. I was so pissed though I did another hole with one blade. Nearly killed me. Up here where I live, it was 29.99 for a new set of blades. Same issue, the bolt just came unscrewed. When I checked the bolts on the remaining blade, they were loose too. The bolts for the replacement blades I bought have hex heads while the originals are an alan wrench. Perhaps one works better than the other? Either way, I'm tightening them before each trip.

Some days just go like that, and it sounds like you had a rough one. My fishing buddy's are always giving me heck about taking out too much gear.
"Ya gotta travel light!" they say. But I've found I'm better off being prepared. Make a check list. Sometimes that means bringing a backup. For example, I always carry a small back up heater, an extra rod, and usually bring a hand auger to back up a power auger. The list goes on. These backups have saved the day on many occasions.

Try some lock tite (medium strength, not the high strength!). Available at most auto stores, hardwares, etc.

A little lock tite on those threads might help to keep them nuts from loosening....

I forgot to mention..... I also forgot my socks (polypropalyne and wool) at home and was forced to wear cotton socks out.
