View Full Version : Kent Lk. Walleye Question
I have had a few people tell me that since all the walleye in Kent Lake are planted that they don't reproduce. I have kept probably about a dozen or so walleye from there this winter and all of them so far have been sterile. However, last night I caught a 23" five pound female. Thinking what I have been told, I kept her. When I got home she was loaded with eggs. If they can reproduce in Kent Lake I would of thrown her back. Does anyone know if any reproduction occurs with walleyes there? I would like to know so I don't keep any more larger females. Thanks.
i talked to a dnr guy there last year and he said some of them do spanw there he thought it was about 30-40 % and they were gunna cut back on the stocking a little but not totally. i have tried to find them in there for years but no luck yet. i know one thing though, they got plenty of food with all them little perch in there.
That's the funny thing. With all those perch in there you would think the walleye would be loaded with them. But most of them have had nothing in there stomachs. Only a couple of actually had a perch in there. Maybe they can digest the fish they fed on the day before faster than I thought.

Kent Lake Walleyes do spawn---just because fish are stocked does not mean they won't/can't spawn.
Most spawning takes place up the Huron River but they can only go as far
as the dam in camp Dearborn at Milford.
There's one particular hole between the lake and the dam that can have them stacked up like cordwood but that's usually after the season closes.
I personally feel that some although small numbers, spawn just below a couple of bridges on the river as well since the constricted current keeps
the gravel scoured clean but that's just my opinion.
If you fish Kent much you'll find that towards the season closure in a couple of weeks the walleye are easiest found above the East Launch which indicates that they are migrating upstream as spawning time approaches.
I've also seen a couple of big females full of eggs caught around shoreline rocks and gravel in early April which says a few may spawn in the lake although I'm not sure how successful their spawning would be.

Sounds like we fish some of the same spots on the river walleyechaser. There's also a couple other spots on the main lake that we've caught some nice 'eyes from. Rocks are key, waders are a must!

You're absolutely correct about the rocks being key and I'm
sure we fish most if not all of the same spots. After all,
there's only so many good areas of the lake and river.
There's also some rock in the main lake and what I think
are a couple of old stonepiles going back to before the
lake was flooded as well as an interesting piece of structure
that's man made if you know what I'm referring to.
