Well, just as we were about to leave for the evening on Saturday. We decided to make a stop by the Hawg tank to catch Pro Angler Doug Strickland demostrating lures. Doug wanted an audience participant to come up to the top and catch a fish and so my 2 1/2 yr old daughter walks out with her camo on and hand waving and right away Doug said, I think we have a winner. Well, I carried her up to the top where after a couple of cast pulled out a nice bass. She hasn't stopped talking about it since. The picture didn't turn out that great.

Yeah,.. They need to re-vamp the whole thing as far as I'm concerned. :16suspect
There's WAY too much flea-market type sales booths for food and t-shirts. Why they do not have more ATV representations, hunting, reloading, and related sales tables up I don't know. And what's up with all of the real estate booths this year?? I went down to Dundee and spent more time at Cabelas than I did at the show.
These "OUTDOOR" shows should be about hunting & fishing products for the outdoors. I was there Sunday and the person who was suppose to be at the Mueller Optics booth never even showed up,.. at least the time I was there from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM . I wanted to check out some of their products but all they had up were about 3-4 rifle stocks with scope ring set-ups on them on the display and nothing else,.. to include the sales rep to talk with. Won't be makeing any sales that way fellas !!
I don't think I will be attending anymore Outdoorama's until some major changes are made. For $5-$10 to park and the $8.00 entry fee it's just is NOT worth the time and effort,.. for me anyway.
Alpena is a pretty good drive to Novi to be ripped-off like that. :dizzy:

the meuller guys were there around 3 or so when i stopped by there booth. the guy i talked to was friendly, the other didnt ay anything at all. must have been burnt out.
as far as the show goes, as i understand it you can buy a spot and set up a booth if you have something to sell. so any company had a chance to buy a booth and setup to show off their product. they choose not to.

I have to agree that 90%+ was outfitters. We had to weave our way through the area just to find product related booths. Most of the morning was spent over in the kids section while my daughter had a fly tied for her and painted a shirt, recieved a white pine seedling, and other various kids projects. We didn't even make an attempt to head over into Outfitter land until afternoon. Compared to some of the other shows out there, I would have to say that this has to be one of the better ones thats put on each year. But I would like to see more product related booths replace some of the outfitters.

I was ther sat and I must say if you are there pushing a stoller You get some of the meanest looks, I took my 2 year old and he loved to see all the animals (alive and Dead) and the fish, but i got so many dirty looks while i was pushing his stoller. i also think there needs to be more Reps there, i felt there was way to many guide services there, not every one can afford to pay a couple thousand dollars to hunt but these people do hunt and spend there money on equipment. Like thunderheads booth for a-way, there should be more of those types showing what is on the market

The obvious downsizing may be a sign of the times with the economy or ??? I think they did a pretty good job of setting up. All the outfitters were in one area, most of the "retailers" were in another, the seminars and boats were off on there own.
I did find something of interest after we went; wish I would have found it before going. On the MUCC website there was a "map" of the layout for Outdoorama. It showed all the participants and there booth numbers, another "map" showed the layout of the booths. I'll be looking this up before I go next year, if I remember too seem to have a bad case of CRS lately!
I did miss Joe's Army/Navy, Gander Mountain and a couple of other "retailers" that are usually there. I always look forward to the "Jerky" booths as well as the "Mustard, Horseradish and Honey" guys! The fly-tying, t-shirt and birdfeeder area sure looked like it was a hit! My little one really enjoyed them as well as the wildlife exhibits! We'll be back again next year!

I quit going to the show two years ago. It is nothing like it was. All the comments I have read is the same comments I had two years ago. Also, the Deer & Turkey spectacular in Lansing is going the same direction.
