Purpose of The Board
What is the purpose of this board to you? To me, this board is a place to share experiences. Learn for other Sportsman and Women. It’s seems to me that many people come to these boards just to stir the pot , so to speak. Is it that most Sportsmen and Women are stressed out, and need a place to vent. I myself think that sportsmen and women get enough bashing for people who don’t hunt or fish. Why are we tearing apart members of this board? I bring all my pictures of wild game, mounts, and experiences to this board to share the with people I thought have the same interest! I have been honest and upfront about everything I have posted. Constant bashing, I don’t get it!!!!!!!

I don't consider open discussions of topics others bring to our attention to be "bashing"
I think what your asking is why have some including myself publicly stated " I wouldn't or will not shoot the deer(s) in question. That's our choice and should not be viewed as anything more than that.
To disagree is not a bash.
My reasons for not shooting a deer that I can't say for certain if it's an albino or not is mearly the fact that I would not want to have to deal with the DNR or any other legal issues.
You first few posts were geared towards getting support when the locals were upset with you.
I think at the time of your first posts, you had our support overwhelmingly.
If you want to debate whether or not others would shoot what they believe to be a white deer, your going to have to stand up to the diffrent answers we give you.
I am not bashing you or are others when they state they wouldn't pull the trigger.
Gene pools etc don't factor in to why I follow my beliefs in trying to stay within the law.
Personally I've dealt with enough tickets in my life and I choose to avoid any situation that may or maynot get me another. ( all traffic tickets btw)
So with that I'd say enjoy the forum here and the membership is over all the best.
In fact I'm going fishing today with a few other from here, as are many of the members I bet.
It's a good place.......... ;)

And learning, and or helping out other sportsman and sportswomen. I also enjoy the fact where I'm meeting new people with the same interests as me. Bashing is one thing you'll never get rid of when you get a load of people together. It doesn't matter if you're on a certain forum, in a bar, a family reunion, anywhere. People are going to disagree with you. But when it get to the point where names are being called, or someone starts calling someone a liar. Then things are going a little too far. I might do something where I have had success throughout the years, where someone else may thinks it's unethical, unsportsman like or even illegal. But then again who are you or any one else to call someone or me names, a liar, or what ever. I myself have been hunting, fishing, trapping and shooting all my life. But I'm not out here trying to prove myself to anyone. And never said I was a expert at what I do. To me I'm good at what I do, and proud of the ways I've helped out not only the younger people, but a lot of the older people too. There's places I go where I meet so called friends, that always know everything, and the very best ways of doing them. I had to get rid of my boat when I got divorced, and since I don't have my boat any longer or spend everyday on the lake. Now I don't know anything or what I'm talking about. Well, I ignore them and walk away. I'll do the same on any forum. When the names start, or the bashing begins I ignore them and the rest of the post. Like the old saying goes..."Opinion's are like azzholes. Everyone has one" Some people will just not except the fact that when they're wrong they're wrong. My sister is one of those people. She has what I call the Martha Stewart syndrome. For she can give out advice, or how to do something. But will never except the fact that when she's wrong she's wrong. For she is never wrong. So I just IGNORE THE B...H! Besides I'm getting too old to fight anymore. Now I would rather turn away. walk away and just forget what happened all together. Life is too short to be miserable all the time. And I say this again. This is just My opinion. :16suspect

standing up for your beliefs is one thing.
Condeming someone elses is another.
One mans junk is another mans treasure.
I guess I look at it like this. Thinking someone is an idiot (trying to keep this pg) is your right.
Saying someone is an idiot is not your right. As it involves another party. Cause and effect.
And as much as I'd like to believe I'm above that, it would be a lie. Im guilty too.
This is not directed at anyone in particular.

Mostly I come to this forum for, information, discussion on interesting topic's, entertainment and just to look at the pictures posted. There's a wealth of information on this forum, i've asked questions on a couple different topics and received positive advice. I think ninty percent of the people on here come for that same reason, either to give or get advice. As far as discussion goes, you can read everyone of my post and see that I'm not here to bash anyone but, I'm not afraid to say if I disagree or agree with something. Been hunting since I was old enough to buy a license, seen a lot of changes come and go in that time, agree with some and some I didn't. That's the way it is, everyone has a different agenda, depending on where they live, how old they are and just what kind of person they are. I consider myself a conservationist at heart, more so, as I grow older, doesn't matter to me if I shoot anything anymore, had my share of good days in the field. More concerned about the future of this sport, for my childern and their childern. I'll agree, some of these topics get pretty heated at times, some even go to far, name calling and all(I think I was called a "closet PETA member " by someone on this forum:lol:). I think some people just can't stand anyone disagreeing with them or not seeing their point of view. I enjoy a lot of thing on this forum, it's the next best thing to being there(hunting), love looking at the pictures of other peoples dogs and game they have taken. Basically, I come here, because of the knowlegde of the other members and try to shed a little light on a subject, if I feel like I can help. I think, that about sums it up:). happy hunting and were all in this together, brian.

To have conversation regardless if it is ideas, thoughts, opinions or debates about different issues that effect hunters and fishermen differently depending on where in the state you participate.
Although as to the piebald deer. I got tired of reading about it some time ago and don't bother to look at those threads anymore. I would not have shot it but that is just what I would have done. Also what trout said too. :yeahthat:

On Nov. 14 while hanging my last stand I fell and broke both legs, bad. I'm still in a wheelchair, should be walking, with a walker in March. I come to this forum because I can't go out, but I can read others experiances and learn from them. Always remain strapped to the tree.

Good luck, with your recovery, kind of in the same predicament, been on here a lot in the last few weeks. Have a bad back and I've been off work for three weeks- probably a couple more. Been to three different doctors, with three different solutions(i guess their just like us, they have a hard time agreeing on anything, too). Think I'm going to do the physical therapy, instead of the fusion thing, being as young as I am. Just want to be able to support my family and get out there hunting. Again, good luck. brian.

sas - sorry to hear about youre accident. i used to skip the saftey belt but as i get older and smarter and by reading posts and stories like yours i am using it all the time now - did you also think, " itll never happen to me?" As for coming to this forum - i love it! reading about and interacting with other sportsman with simailar intrest as yours is a great learning tool, there is something for everyone here. I have spent alot of time on this site lately and really enjoy it and i hope others like to hear about my excpierences and intrests. bringing up contraversional issues for debate is just that-debate, everyone has a different opinion on such topics, and yes a few go overboard, but just like the radio, if you dont like what youre hearing then tune to a different station. I really enjoy it here, hope to meet some of you soon on a outing! For me i will continue to tune in and listen to different points of veiw. -- Bob :) :)

I stumbled across this site looking for stories about traditional deer camps. It has become my go-to site for info, entertainment, and perspectives on everything outdoors here in this great state. I believe the moderators do a great job of allowing honest debates, while cracking down on trash talk--not an easy task. If a debate bogs down to endless bickering i can, and often do, simply move on to something else. The best quote on this I just read last night on a restaurant place mat: "The goal of any debate or argument should be progress, not victory."...Enjoy...Scott

During my fishing adventure several Mods asked about your account.
Seems you've created another username, to avoid some sort of action taken?
Personally I don't have the time right now to look into this, and I advised those who took action to do what they think is right.
So as it stands you've had your time here and it's out of my hands.
Not a very good example of following the rules is it?

Seem's as though the fella who posted this may have left....I'll answer anyway.
I started coming here to read reports of areas around the state where I tend to go,but have know way of getting a reliable report of activity in the area(fishing mostly)
As I posted a little more and got a sense of who some people are and what they are like,I start to feel almost like friends with some of you.
Some times we debate an issue and sometimes it turns a little un-friendly...that's human nature. If it gets out of hand there are people who run this site that take care of that and that's another reason I like this site. They(the moderators) never take action against anyone because of their opinion or belife, really only if there are personal attacks made on another person.
I've found there are many, many people from all walks of life who enjoy the same activites and hold many of the same belifes I do and I really enjoy reading the topics and reports of other members.
I guess if someone doesn't like this site or what is said here they have the right to go somewhere else and probably should.
As for me...I think this is the best outdoor site I've seen.I've met many of the people that use this site.I've been fishing with some of you.I've met some of you in other places and hope to do so again lots of times.
That's the short and sweet of it.

Why wouldn't anybody use this site? Anything you want to know is on here!! You want to know how to make a dog sit? You want to know how to catch a walleye? You want to know whats a good heater for your house? You have any legal questions? There is DNR officers, Police Chiefs, and who knows who else?
You want to know what that brown stuff is that comes out a grasshoppers mouth? There is biologist for that! Everybody's willing to help! Heck I think someone even helped a person out with a vet bill!! Sure things get heated up a little, but that is always going to happen with 10,000 opinions. I think if a person does something very very very close to being against the law, and has to be interpreted by several experts to figure it out, then they should expect both sides opinions to be voiced. If your man enough to take the shot, then be man enough to take the heat! Especially when it's in your favor. You'd be a fool to not visit this site, way to many experts with good advice no matter what the question!! Just my $10.00 worth

Over 400 looks and only 20 responses....looks like a lot of folks come here to read.
I browse the cold water fishing to learn new ideas for the big lake fishing. I'll offer input where I feel I can do some good. I like the hunting forums for the stories other members post...I try to share some of my own. A lot of links to other sites or information are posted here. Although I haven't met anyone directly through the site I know some of my fellow members. Since I have a well-rigged big water boat, I've often thought about posting a Lake Huron salmon/lake trout trip in exchange for Walleye fishing Lake Erie/Drift boating for Steelies/Musky on St. Clair/Similar adventure. Reading the posts of others prompts some ideas of my own whether its fishing, hunting or cooking. Seeing what activities others are up to gives me some ideas also. I'd like to try ice fishing for smelt, boar hunting may be a possibility some day. Since the Saginaw river has been spotty for ice availability I can see from reading the ice fishing forum I'm going to have to venture out on the bay to pursue the walleye.

I came across this site doing a google search for Bear guides. I read a few post and said to my self, man that post need s a responce, So here I am. It is so nice to be able to aska Question and get so many opions and choose which way I want to og with it. I like the fact that a Redneck like me can discuss, learn and even debate issues with doctors, journalist, lawyers, store owners, video producers, LEO's and yes other rednecks..LOL. I have learned allot, and even had my opinions changed on some issues.
I like to read hunting stories that you would never find in an outdoor magazine. Stories from ordinary people, not just hunters and fisherman that get invited to go on guided hunts any where, then write stories about that.
I have been invited to hunt and fish with people I have never met, all over the state I love the most MICHIGAN. I am very happy I found this site..
Besides, I can only look at porn so long.....

I was a looker for a few years on the Cold water Forum just getting Info on how the fishing was. Then I figured that I have taken enough and it was time to start giving. That was almost 2 years ago and I haven't regretted it yet. I have met so many people that I would have never met with out this Vehicle, Tool, Home, or what ever you prefer to call it. We may have our different beliefs in politics, religion, and other topics but when it comes down to it we can still get together and have a good time doing the thing we love, hunting, fishing, camping, or just sitting at a pub talking over a few barley pops.
Besides, I can only look at porn so long.....

I happened upon this site while I was searching for information on a archery pro shop. I really enjoy reading and responding to the threads. There is alot of passion on this site. Passion for the outdoors and what it can bring to peoples lives. In today's society there is so much filth on tv and nothing but negative and bios news, that is why it is enjoyable to come to this site to read the threads. You can learn from many people who have similar interest as yourself. You can also offer feedback that may help someone else.
We need to get young people envolved in the outdoors and a site like this may be a great way to get them involved.
I came to this site because I needed to be able to talk with and learn from Mich. outdoorspeople. I'm a mod on a hunting forum and we have only 5 or 6 members from Mich. there. I needed some discussion about my home turf and I found it. Heck, some of you people could be my neighbors for all I know. I'm still quite new at hunting (only 3 Nov. 15ths under my belt and 2 Oct. 1st's) and fishing and need all the help I can get.:)
One of my customers told me about this site for looking up the fishing situation out on Lake Michigan. It is a wealth of knowledge and has come in handy for me in my quest for Salmon. After checking out the site I saw that it had forums for Turkey, Deer, etc. The people seem nice and friendly and are more than happy to answer questions. There is even the occasional lively debate to spice things up, but nobody gets too bent out of shape.
Now I check it everyday, along with my personal E-mail account to see what is new.

My wife found the site first and kept telling me about a great site that has a ton of bear hunting information since we were researching info before going on our first bear hunt. Finally one day I decided to check out the site. I'm not sure what I was doing to find information before I found this site. I enjoy many of the topics here and try to avoid any of the negative threads. We get enough negativity with our anti-hunting neighbors.
I've hunting with quite a few members all of which are true sportsmen and I consider them to be a good representation of what most people here are actually like in person. I'm glad that I have had a chance to meet and a number of people here and also thankful for the information that I have recieved on this site and hope that information that I have given was helpful.
Bottom line, its a great place be when I'm not outdoors.

I'm mainly here for the stimulating discussions revolving around baiting, youth hunts, crossbows, Mitch Rompola, & Fred Trost :) .
Seriously, I learn a lot from several of the forums, and specifically enjoy posting my thoughts in the whitetail deer hunting forum. I enjoy hearing about other successes, and attempt as much as possible to pass on congratulations to someone who's killed a deer, caught a big fish, etc. As was previously said, this is a great place to be when not outdoors.

I found this site just a few weeks ago when I was looking for information on the web regarding small game hunting in Michigan. Since 2004 was the first season I've ever been hunting, I know that I have a lot to learn from more experienced hunters. I come here for advice on all of the DNR regulations and to pick up pointers from the rest of the group.
Frankly, I've found this website to be an excellent resource, and think that you are great bunch of people to hang out with.

I ran across this site about a year ago while researching a hunting-related topic. It's the best state-related sportsmen's forum I've seen.
I come here to share hunting and sporting thoughts, and to pick your brains about the same. I kinda like the debates, I don't take any of them personal - I'm from Maryland, but voiced the minority opinion on the EEO/AA post under the Sound Off subforum. While the large majority of you were quick to disagree and to point out the many holes in my position, it was done in a fair and courteous manner, IMO.
Think of it this way, guys.....if we were all at the supermarket (me in my suit/tie as manager in consulting firm, each of you dressed as required for your professions, jobs, or careers), there's a good chance we wouldn't speak to each other, as most strangers don't. But if we passed each other in our camo or shooting/fishing garb, it's highly likely that we WOULD at a minimum exchange hellos, and more likely have a conversation along the lines of "any luck today?" or "gettin' ready to head out?"
I LIKE the fact that as sportsmen we share a kindred spirit and love for the outdoors, and that helps us erase many of the artificial lines that people create in everyday life. I consider all of you my brethren. We all know that brothers and sisters don't always agree and sometimes fight, but at the end of the day I'd like to think that we're all rowing in the same general direction, albeit with our own style of paddles and own personal rowing styles.
Thanks for letting me be part of the forum,
Michael

I do all sorts of hunting and fishing. This board has something for us all. What I learned from the lruking in the past is this.
I get a kick out of the "trophy hunters" and their snobbish attitudes. Looking down their nose at the new hunters, the baiter and the meat hunters. Most dont do their part in the management of the herd. They cull the very best breeders and let the does over populate their area for the most part.
Then the fishermen that are the best at their species of fishing. Well!!! till you get them out on the water that is.
I really used to lurk here alot and watch the ego matches on some threads. It made for some great humor. Still does too. It is the internet after all and anyone can be what I call a "netxpert".
Over all this is a great site and all boards have something you wont agree with or isnt your own style. Just dont read it. You have to weed out the bad and use the good info. I will try to avoid the ego matches and "netxperts". There are many great outdoorsmen that post valuable info. I thank them for the help.
Now my post may incite a few of those kind of replys. I know I'm a newbie and dont have the history to post something like I just did. Just dont expect a reply from me if you find yourself resembling the remarks I have made above. JMHO and that doesnt mean a thing. This is the internet after all.

alot of reading for about a year before I registered.
Its kind of like a brotherhood, we don't all agree & from time to time we see the black sheep of the family. More often than not I don't reply to those posts but have woke up in the middle of the night thinking about a post that got to me.
Its entertainment, knowledge, a place to vent, a place that reduces stress.
A place to come and interact. I have met a lot of great people from here. Some I haven't met that I feel I know well.
A place to come to be aware of whats going on, to benifit our cause of the love of the outdoors.
Without this place & the internet period, most of us would not have met or interacted like this.
JUST A GREAT PLACE TO BE !

I come to this site to keep in touch with the folks who enjoy the outdoors from my home state of Michigan . I have lived in Tennessee since 1991 ,so I like to read the stories because it brings back fond memories of the times I spent in the woods and on the water in Michigan .

For me it's simple: I enjoy listening to and sharing ideas with those who have common interests.
For me it's love of gun dogs, pheasant-quail hunting, and upland questions and answers.

I found this site looking for left handed trolling reels with a built in linecounter, which I found by the way, Cabelas now makes one (depthmaster gold crush) and so does Okuma. Although I don't think Okuma's is available in the US yet. And I got really hooked on the Whitetail Deer hunting forum. I think I read every post for the month prior to the gun opener. Still check in as often as I can, and for some reason (must be a masochist or something) really enjoy the Cougar threads. Except when the go on for pages and pages and get nowhere.
Thank you to everyone who posts here, you make my lunchtimes a little better.
