;) Every one of us addicted fisherman has the dream. that one fish we have yet to capture.i have caught my 10 pound walleye, 10 pound bass and big kingfish ,but the dream is never complete.every time i catch the dream ,the dream catches me.thats what makes this sport so much fun.my latest pursuit is a peacock bass from a florida canal without a guide.tell me your current dream fish and how you're gonna get that sucker.
a wise old salmon charterboat once told me that he was done with the dream. he simply was'nt mad at the fish anymore.thats why he sits at fishermans center in harbor beach playing cards and getting plastered till the wife has to carry him home. LET THE DREAM NEVER DIE. ;)

I made 28 trips in 5 years to Grand Cayman,B.W.I.;to erect steel buildings and structural steel in conventional buildings(1981-'86).
My dream while working there was to catch a bonefish.I,spent 6 months wading the flats, seeing lots of bones, only to spook them, and have them run off.
Finally one beautiful Sunday morning, everything was right. The wind to my back, and the sun to my face,I got within casting disance with my light bucktail jig.I,successfully put it right in front of the school, and watched as a 8-9lber,picked it up and moved away.Once the line got tight, the drag began to squeel,as 200 yards of 6lb line came screeming off my Penn, ultrasport reel.I,thought I was going to lose it when I saw bare spool, and didn't dare tighten the drag.
So I pinched the line with my fingers a few times, and it turned. After about 15 minutes, and three fantastic runs,I finally brought him to me. Six months of wading the flats through turtle grass, and sea wasps, finally paid off.My first bone I hooked up with ended up being my personel best.I hooked up with some 45 of them after that, only landing 6 of them, none as large as the first one.
After that I went for baby tarpon on 4lb,in the canals(shiner size up to 10lbs).Those 2 breeds took up the majority of my free time, while working out of country.

I guess that you could say that I caught my dream fish although I hope to catch a bigger one. I was up north about 5 or 6 years ago and fishing a very small stream that contained some big brown trout. It was during Hex hatch which was waning and just about to peter out. We were camping with the relatives and I had only about a hour to fish before I had to be at the campground. This was about 2 in the afternoon and and the hexes usually hatch in the middle at night but if the conditions are right they will hatch during the daytime. This has only happened to me about three times in the last 30 years or so. So I stepped into this creek and I mean it was small, just about five feet across at the best but there were some good holes in it. After fishing about ten minutes I noticed a few Hexes in the air, not too many but just a few. Well the fish noticed them as well and I could hear a sporadate splash once in a while that let me know that a fish was feeding around the bend. This creek has a very slow current and I passed it up for years thinking that it could not contain a trout. Well to make matters short I was using a old beat up muddler that I assume the trout took for a emerging hex nymph and I proceeded to catch a couple of feeding fish in the 18 inch range which just thrilled me. I then heard a large rise around the bend and slowly made my way to it. As I rounded the bend it rose again and I could see that it was a large fish. Of course it was in a very hard to reach spot and that is where all the big trout are at. It rose about every two minutes or so and after deciding where my cast should be I made one after a few minutes. The trout rose but did not take my fly but took another and I was relieved that I did not spook it. After what seemed like 30 minutes but was only about a minute I made another cast and hooked the fish. Right away I knew that I had a good fish on as it dove straight down to the bottom of the hole. After playing with this fish for about 15 minutes as I did not want to break it off I finally got it out into the open and landed it up in the grass as I had no net with me. I measured the fish against my rod that is marked off with finger nail polish and it came to 25 and a quarter inches. I did not want to keep it so after keeping it in the current for a while I let it go and it started to belly up. I went throuogh this process a few times until the fish slowly went back into its hole. My heart was beating for fast you could not believe it. The worst part of this whole experience is that I had my small camera in my vest the hole time and was so excited that I never thought to take it out. I thought that this was as good as it was going to get so I left the creek, got in my car, stopped at a party store and bought me a beer.

I succeeded in getting my first legal muskie two years ago in St. Clair - a 42 incher that was an amazing thrill.
Still on the list:
30 inch walleye
14+ inch perch
Monster Redfish
and Monster Snook
Hopefully the 30 inch walleye is next!
