Me and my wife sit on our deck in the evening and watch from about 10ft. Had one last week fly right up to us within reach and stop in mid air for a few seconds looking right at us. I had on a red t-shirt that might have looked tempting. Last year had one within a foot of my shoulder, land on a hibiscus flower. I sat still for the few seconds it was there and just watch. We use a feeder that has a perch for them to stand on while they feed. It seems to keep them still alot longer.

The Hummingbirds are just about all gone for the season. The males left a couple of weeks ago and now the females are gone. Time to take down the feeders and get them cleaned and stored for next spring. ;)

I had the best of both worlds. Have some hanging plants in baskets. I believe they are bleeding hearts, I have had them for a couple of years and trim them put them in the basement for the winter...boom they are back in the spring...well the point of all that is I couldnt remember what they are called cause its been awhile since I bought them- back to the hummingbirds, they love these as much as any feeder that I have had they make morning and evening trips and go from one basket to the next quite methodically, I sit on a bench on the porch about three feet back from them and they dont seem to be phased by my presence at all. Now I dont sit there as often and I am guessing they are gone too. Where is it that they go for the winter?

I read that a lot of them go to the Yuctan Peninsula in Mexico. Some go to other points south.
