Hunted Lapeer state land today with the neigbors son. Try as we might we didnt see anything to shoot today. The lab got to stretch her legs, but we didnt see many tracks either. Rather odd for such a sunny day. Anyone else have any luck today?

Even though the sun was out it was cold and windy here. Possibly that's why you saw no rabbits? Or there aren't any around, but just huntin is the goal right!

Id take my daughter, but she had indoor soccer.........so the wife took her and I took the neighbors son hunting instead. I go to as many games as I can, but it just looked TOO good not to try for rabbits. We just didnt see any. We had fun though. I let the lad bust a few rounds to clear the choke. He liked that.
Wants a new 12 gauge for this fall. So were working on getting him an 870 of some sort. Hes been using a 410 and wants to step up! Rich

St.Clair County gave up 8 rabbits for me and my 80 year old father. I am a lucky man to still be able to hunt with the man who showed ne so much.

Struggled Saturday morning to break one loose that dogs struggled to follow.
Busted four loose in the afternoon. One went on a nice run to a hole. The next went on a half hour double circle before it ended up in the pouch. The last two went straight to the ground.

I went out with my uncle this weekend also. Not a rabbit or any sign. We went to 6 different spots in Muskegon county. Lots of deer and coyote tracks. The only small animal tracks we saw were turkey and partrige. Looks like the yotes are getting a little greedy with the bunnies.

Cotton Road Kid here! Just a tip I have picked up over the years. Look for a small spot of say only a couple hundred square feet. Most hunters will not hunt a small spot but that is where the rabbits will sometimes hang out.

Huntsman27,
You wouldn't happened to have been in Bald Mountain State Rec. Area by any chance? I was there on the Saturday in question, with my brother--who was hunting for the very first time. With all of the fresh snow, we saw plenty of rabbit tracks, a few places where they had obviously been feeding and even three rabbit burrows, but we didn't see any rabbits.
The week before last, I jumped one rabbit out of a thicket but couldn't get a clear shot at him. I also saw one amble in front of my headlights just after hunting hours closed, while I was warming up my car. That one was steel grey and bigger than any rabbit I've ever seen. Might it have been a varying hare?
I'm planning on doing some more rabbit hunting this afternoon.
regards,

regards, No I havent hunted there. Saw some spots that looked good though. Ive not seen a snowshoe this far south, maybe it was a domestic that got free? Rich
