I would go to white lake cause muskegon lake ice isnt any good where the fish are. Try the narrows at white lake or lions den on the whitehall side. Guys have been getting quite a few white bellys by the old post office on the whitehall side in about 50 fow.

Muskegon Lake is giving up some fish. Not sure about the perch, but the toothy gators are there to be had. As in real esate..its always about location..location....location. I would stay away from the east end of the lake...bad ice! I wouldn't venture east of 2nd Street. Hey Dapper Trapper...if you happen to read this post....Tell Denny the dead smelt worked once again on Sunday night. Got two keepers....both on the dead smelt he gave me.

Yea, the dead smelt work real fine. We ended up with 3 limits over the weekend. The lagest came in at 32". Most were caught on dead smelt. Speaking of smelt we are going to go get some this weekend. I have my sights set on a master angler smelt. Last year we were almost there but short by an inch. The story of my life. This year?

I am surprised that dead bait works seeing how pike like to stalk their prey? I have done a lot of pike fishing on the ice and always used live bait but maybe I will try this dead smelt tactic. how do you set it up?

The best way is thread a Swedish Hook into them. However a treble seems work just as fine. Fishing them very close to the bottom seems to work the best. As for northerns stalking their prey, it seems pike are individuals. Some stalk others come in at full bore and slam it as hard as they can.

On another note alot of people don't think about, If you catch a good pike 7 lbs or better we always move that tip-up to a different location. Pike are very territorial and it's rare to get another one from the area right away.
