Just wondering if anyone has fished either of these latley. I have only fished Lakeville once thru the ice and have never tried Orion. Any info on these or ice conditions? Also, has anyone had any luck at any of the Oakland county parks lakes this year.

Fished Orion two weeks ago tomorrow, lost three nice fish using walleye minnows. The last one stripped off about 1/3 of my line. Nothing on tip-ups. Couple of dink pan fish. Both of these lakes used to always be mentioned in the fishing reports for big pike .

Orion is good for medium sized gills. Sometimes you will get some over 8". The crappie fishery seems to have declined. I haven't even caught one yet this year. I used to get some really nice crappies there. The pike fishing has been very slow until last weekend. I caught one Saturday, and one on Sunday. Then they turned off again. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I did not see any pike. Last night I got a nice fat 25 incher. You may have lost your minnows to bass. You can expect to catch alot of bass, but remember the season is closed on them right now. There are some big walleyes in Orion, but not many are caught.

A @#$#@% snowmobile ran over my $20 tip-up as I was walking towards it to pick it up last night. That really pissed me off.

Lake Orion fish tested 13th highest in the state for mercury out of 400 lakes tested. It was right behind Orchard Lake. They tested gamefish (bass, pike, walleye). Don't eat too much, or you will get like me! :dizzy:

CAUTION: When walking out towards the main lake from the boat launch, the first bay on the right (West) has thin ice down where it narrows. It was only 3" of white ice before the last thaw. There is a current through that area. Two snowmobiles went through there in January. It didn't even seem safe to walk on two weeks ago in that area. Most of the lake is 10"-12".

Good Luck,

Thanks guys!! Sounds like we might give Lakeville or one of the Oakland county parks lakes a try. It would be nice to find some decent size gills. Sorry to hear about your tip-up, did he stop to apologize or just keep going?

I have only fished it once thru the ice long ago and we just set a few tip-ups out. I think we did catch a couple of small pike. I have fished it in the summer and had about the same results as you. Hopefully things will pick up on LSC soon.
