should do the same for CARP!
Catch A Snakehead? Bass Pro Shops Has Your Reward!

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, in Cooperation with the Maryland DNR, Calls Attention to Invasive Species
The Northern Snakehead fish has received much publicity since it's first invasion of a community pond in central Maryland. Now, the predatory, nonnative Snakehead has been found in the Potomac River where last year, 20 were caught.

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World-Hanover has joined with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in an effort to draw public attention to all invasive species by using the northern snakehead as a 'poster child'.

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World will be offering a 'Snakehead Reward' Gift Card to anglers catching a snakehead in Maryland waters or waters of the Potomac watershed. The fish must be caught on hook and line with legal fishing methods by a licensed angler and be reported to Maryland Department of Natural Resources or another resource management agency.

New for 2005: The angler is not required to bring the actual snakehead fish into Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. The fish must be turned into the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Service.

If the fish is caught in Maryland, anglers are asked to call DNR at 410-260-8320, or toll-free at 1-877-520-8DNR, ext. 8320. Anglers may also call U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service 410-573-4506 for more information.

Anglers should follow the DNR guidelines for immediately killing the fish. The angler should bring the verification from the agency that the fish has been reported and turned over to the agency to Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World at 7000 Arundel Mills Circle (Exit 10A off Route 100 at Route I-295) in Hanover, Maryland.

The 'Snakehead Reward' Program runs from March 1 through October 31, 2005. Bass Pro Shops 'Snakehead Reward' Gift Card amounts are as follows: $10 for Snakeheads under 12 inches $25 for Snakeheads 13 to 24 inches $50 for Snakeheads over 24 inches In addition, anglers will receive a 'Snakehead Wrangler' cap from the Maryland DNR Fisheries Service.

I don't plan to be in Maryland anytime soon. Too bad...would like to make a couple of bucks back to buy some plugs I lost this winter on those darn steelies.

Does anyone know where are these fish caught in MI. I was on the DNR page and I now know what they look like. I have never seen a live one.

There was one caught in Lake Michigan. Do a search on them and you'll find articles.

I did do a little research. Looks like I have a better chance of catching a big head carp in the Great Lakes then I do of seeing a live a snakehead:

1 snakehead in lk mi

2 big head carp in lk erie

My goal for this year is set......I am looking for one of those big head carp to jump in my boat when I am out on lake erie. I'll have my girlfriend beat it to death with her sandle......for the better cause of course.

I've caught 2 snakeheads in Orchard Lake in West Bloomfield, they fight like a trophy pike and are nasty as H311, first one didn't know what it was so we released it but the second one got the edge of the paddle treatment, try in shallow bays like 5 FOW or less. most of the time they just sit there?

hey crappie john i think that you should start carrying a fish identification guide with you on your fishing trips before you go smashing random fish over the heads with oars........."sorry i shot your dog mister, i thought it was a coyote."

I have to agree with the last couple of posts. If there were reproducing snakeheads anywhere in Michigan, everyone would be talking about it.
This fall I posted about a fish that I saw in the Flint River that I couldn't identify. I looked up pictures of snakeheads and I admit that I wondered about it. It wasn't until this site put up the picture of the burbot on the opening page that I believe I got my answer. I had never seen a fish that looked like that before, and although it doesn't make much sense for a burbot to be in the river ( the markings were the sign for me), I think that's what it was. Saying you saw or caught a snakehead is about the same as saying you saw a cougar in the woods- a few people may believe you, but the majority will think you're crazy.

it had the head of the snakehead shape and it had the fin all the way around. It must of been a deformed dogfish if it was, cause i have caught dog fish and it didn't look like this "snakehead" i caught. And i do carry the fishing guide in my boat and it had some features that were close to a dogfish but the head was more like a pike. The only thing that wasn't close to a snakehead was the stripes. Maybe people should stop bashing other people for WHAT THEY SAW... i c now why some people leave this site
