With all the talk of musking fishing and types of line used for trolloing, how about what Rod and Reel combo you are using for trolling ? I use Penn 320gti's and #1120 Ugly Stick rods, with a few RP2 rods also.
My boat is small, so I have to conserve room and do thigs a bit differently than the big boys. Down and wash rods- 7' ML Ugly Stick Tigers with Daiwa Sealine LC's.
Long rods (Great for following sharp dropoffs in the channels and shallow weed edges) 10' Daiwa Heartland heavy dipsy rods. Same sealine reels.
Long lining, board, and outrigger rods, ST Croix Avid and Loomis 7'6 & 7'7 med action bucktail rods. (actually a couple of my casting rods) Abu 6500 C-4's.
Under calm/ bright conditions when the boards are getting the job done I'll run a couple more of my casting rods as board rods. Another St Croix Avid and Loomis duo, they have Daiwa Millionare CVZ's on them.
Agree with the Ugly sticks - I have 209's on my rigs along with C4's on the board/boat rods.
I have some extra 209's, if anybody is looking for some. Almost brand new, used just a couple of time last year. Got the boxes and have wash rods to go with em. Not actively selling but if anybody needs a good set up let me know. Price will be right. I'm looking to trade up to some 320GTi's but need to get rid of some of what I got.

I use Ugly Stick tiger rods with the metal eyelets, and penn 320 gt2, with #40 big game mono, use them for everything. Wash, boat , down and board my 2 cents the best versitile economical and quality package for Musky trolling. (though the Penn 209 is much less expensive and of good quality I prefer the GT2 320's for there larger drag, crank, handle and gears.) When conditions allow me to run additional rods I use Ugly stick down rigger rods with Shimano takota 600lc reels and #30 mono. Only off the planer boards. Line counter reels are great for taking all the guessing out of calculating how far out to set the baits, perfect for mutiple lines on the same board. I perfer mono for trolling allows for a larger range for setting the drag, the strech helps set the hook and costs the least, all the rod have #80 mono/floro leaders with #120 snaps and swivels.
