If you could spend around a $1000, what would you go hunt? I am in this situtation. I have only been hunting deer, turkey and MI small game. I would like to hunt something that I haven't had the opportunity to hunt yet.

I was planning on going after Caribou this next fall, but that hunt fell through. So now I am thinking about what to do instead.

Time away is as much of a concern, if not more, than money. I can't be gone too long from my family or my practice.

I thought black bear, caribou, boar or buffalo. If anyone has some good ideas, let me know. It would be even more helpful if you have a specific hunt or outfitter for me to look into.

For $1000 you may be limited to Michigan Black Bear (guided) or Boar hunting on a hunt ranch (fenced in hunt ranch) in Michigan or surrounding states. I would think that other big game hunts would cost much more. Considering the cost of lodging, meals, handling of game and shipping you may have to set something up here close to home. Then it's…shoot, gut, put it in your truck and drive to the processor / taxidermy or both.

Good luck and good hunting!

Check out Rick Dickson's bear hunts.http://www.nlmotel.com/dicksonsbear.htm

I have hunted with him twice. Very good outfitter but do not do the White Lake hunt that he offers. It is a great fishing lake and there are bear there but that lake sucks for traveling in the dark in a boat after a hunt.:dizzy:

A regular hunt with him is $900 and that incluedes bait, skinning, and freezer care for your bear, and campsite. I have not done a regular hunt with him but have talked others that have and had great success. I have always done the Pukaskwa(sp??) camp. Cost a little more but is a very remote camp.
If you have ?? just let me know.

A little bit over a grand but it's a blast!! Another thing you could do is stay aroudn here and lease a nice piece of white tail property ;)

There was a game ranch in Michigan that I really considered going to in the past. The cost was $800.00 for a stag Red Deer. For me it would be about the quality and quantity of venison. That is one big animal for $800.00! Also, the racks are pretty impressive as well. Most likely, the next year I fail to put something in the freezer I will do the $800.00 grocery shopping thing. It may not be the best "hunt", but as always I still will seek a one shot, clean and humane harvest with my bow.... and because of this I would assume a certain degree of adrenaline rush as well. <----<<<

You can also hunt public land and do well to look at Wyoming for $1,000.00 you can drive out and go for antelope muley or elk. Hard work but they are there my buddy has taken 2 nice bulls and a nice antelope out there all off of public land.

There are a few Canadien Moose hunts for just about that amount. One place I did a fishing trip at guided for Moose in the fall with an exceptional sucess rate of 95-98%.

Problem is you need to have 4-6 guys to make camp and it was for 3 antlerless and one bull. So one guy gets a bull while the others hunt for sandwiches...which would be cool with me.

I know the time constraint thing too...not too far away though. Train or fly in from White River. Could be there and back in 5 days EASY...3 if your in a hurry.

Economical for sure tough.

The moose hunt sounds awesome. I am very interested in going for a boar also. I a have been reading about different places to do it, but have yet to decide on a place.

Black bear hunts also seem very interesting.

Please keep the responses coming, because I know that there are a lot of cool places and things to see out there that I would never know about if someone didn't pass the info along too me.

Thanks.

For $1,000.00 you can get about 70 birds and have one heck of a pheasant hunt

Check out the LAKE OF THE WOODS area in MINN. I was looking at a combo fish and duck hut there for $650. You fish in the morning and gun ducks in the afternoon.

there is a place in quebec, ( i can't remember the outfitters name) that has a caribou hunt for 1350 us. They have always had a booth at the outdoorama, and had one at the lansing deer and turkey spectacular. If you get a chance to go, i would reccommend going and taking a look around (at the outdoorama). You might be able to find a dream hunt for $1000. Remember to check references and look around. the hunts are out there, you just have to find them. Maybe a self guided elk hunt out west? the license in colorado will cost you around 450, and you can hunt state ground. My brother and dad have did this for the past 3 years and have had success. just a couple of options.

There are a ton of "do it yourself" hunts that you can do for a grand. As someone stated, Wyoming Mulie/Antelope, Dakota's Pheasant etc...

For a guided hunt, your pretty much looking at Whitetail(minus tag), bear or waterfowl. Waterfowl could be plains or coastal for sea ducks from Maine to the Carolinas, the problem being most places want to book a group and will not take single. Pretty much for guided hunts leaves you with bear.

I'm assuming a grand doesn't include transportation?

There are very few "quality" guided big game hunts that you can do for a grand. If you don't have high expectations or success or quality then that amount is fine, but if you are looking for a good chance at success or quality, I'd put the money away until I had more to work with.

You could take a look at these, they are from my to do list.
www.mirageoutfitter.com (http://www.mirageoutfitter.com) quebec late season(winter=snowmobile) their cheapest hunt is 630.00 the highest is 1280.00 both plus tax.
Or www.karankawa.com (http://www.karankawa.com). Feral hogs over bait east texas. Two hunters for two days minimum 175/day, each I believe. Both are quite a drive. Or you could take the money to the gun shop!

Give me the grand, I'll run around on state land and hunt me. only setback is that I'll be able to shoot back at you.

Take him up on it. you can always take the money back after your done. You won't have to go to the gunshop either.
