I have a 15` starcraft starfire with a 40 yamaha fourstroke i`m thinking about a bowmount foot controlled trolling motor for it . What would be a good choice? Something in the three to four hundred range, What length shaft? What thrust? 12 or 24 volt? Thanks for the help.

Minn Kota Powerdrive in the 40-50lb range depending on the type of water your fishing in. With the Powerdrive, you can always upgrade to the Co-Pilot for an extra $150. Shaft length is determined by a measurement from the Top of the Bow to the Waterline. This chart is directly from the Minn Kota catalog:

Bow to Waterline Shaft length
0-16" 36"
16-22 42
22-28 48-52
28-34 54-62

Most powerdrives are close to the dollar amount your looking for, but always shop around. I just purchased the 55PD for my 17' last month on closeout at Bass Pro for $250! This means I can add the Co-Pilot and still be under the original cost of motor, which is usually around $420.

Im no expert on trolling motors but ill give you my advice. Ive owned several diffrent brands of trolling motors and I believe motorguide is the best brand out there. I bass fish tournaments every weekend and sometimes during the weekdays and have never trolling motor problems. heres some usefull info. get the most thrust you can afford see what your boat is wired for 24 is better than 12 volts and make sure the shaft is long enough to stay in the water on days when you may encounter some wave action.
