Hey everyone, I was wondering what everyones biggest fish they have ever caught in there life was. Because I broke my personal records this year. No fisher mens tales either! J/K
My biggest bass was taken this August on a lake down the road from me. It was 20 1/2 inches and weighed 4lbs. My next largest fish was a little 16 incher, big improvement.
My biggest pike was caught on the 1st of 2001. I thought that was pretty cool. Well my uncle was teaching me how to fish tip-ups and this was my very first time ice fishing and I caught a 30 inch pike. We didn't get it weighed but trust me she wasn't light.

30 lb salmon, about 10 years a go, casting from shore at Tawas. I hooked the fish, felt the weight of it, then nothing. 10 seconds later it was at me feet. It ran right on the beach.

My biggest fish ever is a 26 lb. Chinook Salmon I caught when I was 9 in Petosky harbor 27 years ago (1973) . My dad, brother and I were fishing from a 16 foot aluminum boat and I had 5 or 6 fish on that day. I only caught the one fish. I fought the fish for close to a half hour and I repeatedly tried to give the rod to my dad, he would not take it. The fish towed the boat all over the harbor. When my dad finally netted the fish she was shooting eggs all over the boat. My dad said that it would have weighed close to 30 pounds if it would have been full of eggs. Still trying to top that one.

I have fished all the Great Lakes (except Lake St.Clair),Lake Ontario,Alantic Ocean and in the Gulf of Mexico (Fla.)and to this day the biggest fish I've caught is a 52lb. carp in the Grand River here in Lansing. We took it over to a friends house and weighed it on there bathroom scales. Then went back to the river stood on the bridge for awhile and somebody stopped and gave us 5.00 for it.Back then that was alot of money.

Stelmon, believe me it's one of my best fishing memories to date. We hooked into some other sturgeon that we couldn't even budge. They would start stripping out line as soon as they figured out they were hooked. All we could do was bust off to conserve our line. All we had on was 6lb for the steelies. The sturgeon, suckers, steelies and pike were all up spawning at the time and were congested below the dam. awesome fishing if you can ever get there in the spring.

My largest fish was a 38" northern pike that weighed 15lbs. caught in Canada. My biggest fish in Michigan was also a northern that weighed 15lbs. but was 36" long. I'd love to get a 20+ pounder some day. I'll just have to keep chasing them.

In 1996 I got 2 Master Angler's:
1. 42 1/4" Pike - 18.75lbs
I got her in the U.P. on a tip up. It looked like a monster sliding by the hole, the first time. I can put my fist in her mouth without touching anything.
2. 22" Pink Salmon - 5+lbs
I got her out of my home town of Rogers City, during the Salmon Tourny. It is one of the ugliest fish I have ever seen. It looked like a shoe box swimming through the water.
In 1992, on Spring Break in Miami, I hooked into "something" that I fought for 45 min. We were in a 18' open bow bayliner, and the shark fisherman, who took us out, thought it may have been a 16' Mako, by the way it fought. All I wanted to do is touch the dorsal, it broke the line when it was about 8-10' under the surface. It kicked my butt!!! That beer tasted so good. :)
And a 23lbs salmon, also out of Rogers City. Nothing too exciting on that one.

190 pound halibut? Mako Sharks? Wow! Here's my modest portfolio.
Largemouth Bass - 4 pounds. On the wall!
Walleye - about 8 pounds - caught at tippy dam out of season while steelheading and let it go.
Laketrout - 40" about 20 pounds - caught three in the same weekend and ate them all, eventually.
Perch - 15" give or take, caught on a topwater bass lure. Really, I have witnesses. Not the fish though, I ate him too.
Crappie - 14"
Salmon - 26 pounds
Northern Pike - 40 1/2" - weight unknown but badly faded picture attached. This was caught in Houghton Lake the last day of ice fishing season around '78 or '79. It had a treble hook and piece of line in it's mouth from someone else's loss.

Well my biggest fish came on the first day I ever went Muskie fishing. My buddy wanted me to go Muskie fishin with him so I decided to head out onto the Tahquamenon with him. Within the first half hour I had already caught a 33 inch pike and threw it back. My buddy caught two 30+inch pike. I didn't realize my next fish was a Muskie until it got up to the boat. I got to see the attack which was awesome but I thought it was a small Pike because it wasn't fighting that much. Once I got to the boat I couldn't believe the size of the fish. It was a pretty big Muskie, I don't know the actual size because my buddy got his lure stuck in the net and he couldn't get it out in time to net the fish for me. The fight was amazing once the Muskie saw the boat it went wild. It was amazing. That was enough to hook me. Then about an hour later I hooked into another one and didn't lose this one. It ended up being 39 inches. A fat one, but we didn't have a scale so I couldn't really tell you how heavy it was. We ended up catching another Muskie that night, it was 37.
This was in early June, and thats all I did the rest of the summer. I must say I'm hooked on it now.

48" lk.sturgen in the north channel of the St. Clair october 1999 while jigging for walleye. Was using a 1 oz.jig and a 4"plastic minnow. took about 20 minutes to land. Thought it was a log at first but felt it moving. While fighting it thought it might be a sturgen or a big catfish. I was lucky to have a friend who had a camera on his boat and got some nice pictures before returning it back.

If you think the pike a mean looking, wait till you bring in your first Muskie, take a picture of the face and then compare it to a picture with a pike. They both are some mean looking fish, and you sure don't want to get your hands in either mouth. But there is something about the muskie, which makes it even more impressive than the Pike. I guess for me its that the Muskie is much harder to catch and a better fight once you hook into one. Just some thoughts.

Boy, I've never measured fish I've caught except to ensure they were legal size. I have caught salmon bigger than 20 lbs, good size lakers, nice perch, great white crappies, real nice walleye all in the Port Austin/Grindstone area and Caseville/Sebewaing area for the walleye.
I've seen some giant northerns early in the spring in the creeks near Menominee. The biggest northern which I seen and measured because I was watching that nobody speared it, was 52" long in a creek that was about 12" deep and 3 feet wide, Grant Creek, City of Menominee, right near the intersection of US-41 and M-35. Also seen and measure a number of northerns in the 45" class in Bailey Creek and the bridge on M-35 north of Menominee, again in the spring watching for people spearing illegally.

My biggest fish I caught was a 38lb 51inch King Mackeral out of Charleston South Carolina. My biggest fish in Michigan is 20lb King Salamon out of Sauguatk in May. hey guys, how bout this for a big fish story. Waited 7 yrs. for a walleye over 10 lbs. to mount. A year ago today, in less than 20 minutes time in the saginaw, took a 10 lb 2 oz and a 11 lb 8oz on ultra light rod. Today, took a 11 lb 10oz on the same rod. Just thought I would add to the list. Good luck to all.
By the way my biggest fish ever caught was a 21 lb. king with an 18 lb laker being my second biggest.

well I was about 12 years old (25 yrs. ago makes me sound old) my father brother and i had been going to drumond island memorial weekend. We would perch and pike fish for four days and did this every year. On this trip my uncle came along with his 14' boat 25 hp outboard. Well the 3rd day we were heading back into Hamond bay about a mile from the park launch and the motor quit. Soooo my overweight uncle w/highbloodpreasure insisted on rowing the rest of the way and demanded that we cast spoons for pike I figured why not. Iwas at the bow and would cast forward and end up getting snagged in the seaweed by the time i mentioned it we past the spot by 30 yards and my uncle would throw himself. you know row back unsnag my line and row forward again, but still insisted that we (even me ) still cast after the third time of snagging up i thought i did it again. My line wouldnt budge no matter what i did I let everyone know that once agian i was into grass ,but than all of a sudden the grass was moving from the back to the front of the boat after a short while we finally landed what at the time was the largest fish i had ever seen come out of the water. 42" 18lb northern pike the eyes were 8 " apart he was as long as i was.

Nothing that swims in the water has the smell of a MUSKIE. They are the best, my first one was 25# and 45 inches long in lk. St. Clair. I was hooked then and eventually bought a boat and all the gear. Now my wife and I get out every year and manage to get a few almost every trip. Best day was 5 plus a bonus Stellhead right in front of the Clinton. I also managed one on teardrop this winter fishing for perch. This little guy was the most colorful one I have ever seen. Very silver compared to the hoggs we ususlly get.

Shooter 921, I've not only had good luck but also the good fortune to live on the west coast (fishing wise, otherwise, I'm not crazy about the place) for several years during which time I chased steelhead, salmon, stripers and sturgeon. I was single then and had the time and money to fish the gulf and B.C. After that I worked in the Philippines for 7 years during which time I had a 47' boat and spent every weekend on the China Sea chasing billfish, wahoo, dorado (dolphin), sailfish, etc. I returned back to Michigan in 1984 and have been here ever since. I guess I've been fishing for about 45 years so I've had plenty of time to learn a few things inspite of myself.
Good fishing

Was unusual though had one other hook up with a big muskie while trolling that week he busted the line in a matter of seconds. Caught two small muskies that week as well. And seen one other big one landed in a boat and they didnt throw it back, figure it must have atleast been legal. Dont know where they all came from. Fished there many years without ever seeing one.

Shooter921, believe it or not, I've only had one fish mounted and that's the tiger musky which by the way was caught in Woodland Lake by Brighton about 12 years ago. There are times I could kick myself for not mounting more but I keep thinking I'll get another bigger one. When in the PI there were no taxindermy facilities so slightly discolored photos will have to suffice.
I do have the bill from the black marlin as well. One of these day when I'm rich I'll think about mounting more.Same with bow hunting--I've taken some beautiful bucks but only have 1 shoulder mount---the rest are racks on the garage wall. Pictures work pretty well although they're not as nice as mounts.

7' 8-1/2" (132 lb) sailfish in the gulf of Mexico, I was 16 at the time and I only weighed about 100 lbs. That's my biggest.

Walleyechaser, if you catch any bigger ones than that I would say get em mounted. Are you retired?

Unfortunately Shooter I'm not retired----I still have to work for a living! When I do retire, you can count on me fishing/hunting 365 days a year, not 150 or so.

With the ice melting, anyone catch any big ones lately? Or catch any at all?
Largemouth: 23" and the fattest sow I have ever seen- California or otherwise!! But it was in Michigan!! Estimated over 9 lbs. Believe it or not but I swear.
Smallmouth: 19"
Walleye: 26"
Pike: 35"
And now for the only thing that matters any more...
Musky: 45"!!!!
I will probably break my pike record incidentally while fishing for the great musky- but those 2 records are the only ones I will probably break because I can no longer fish for anything but MUSKY!!

Would have to put my foggy memory to the test. 50 1/4 inch muskie taken off the South Weather buoy on the "Darlurious" a few years ago, did not weigh it, measured and released. May have a picture, but will have to do some searching. Think that was my biggest.
Used to catch a lot of 8-9 pound walleyes handlining at night in the Detroit River. Seems the biggest that I can remember was about 9 1/2 pounds taken right out in front of the RenCen, probably ten years ago. Most of those old sows were thrown back, they taste like shoe leather, so we released them to lay more eggs. Still fun to catch.
When I was a kid we used to fish for Carp at the foot of Fairview on the Detroit River near St. Jean. Caught a lot of those big ugly suckers. Sold them to the locals for a few bucks. Fond memories! Any one ever fish for carp with "doughballs"?
Over & Out:D :D :D
LM-10 pounds (FL) on the wall
SM- 5.8, released (LSC)
Pickerel-10 pounds (LSC) was going on the wall but the boys cut it up as we were having a fish fry and they needed the donation. I almost killed them.
Moved up here from Tampa and have had numberous big fish (salt water) but that was then and this is now. Still chasing that 50" Musky. Wanna catch him/her but not quite yet. The chase is much more fun. I am strictly C&R at this point in my life and if I want a good perch/walleye dinner I hit the VFW Friday nights.

Personal best this year on both freshwater and saltwater biggest fish caught.
In August I caught a 46", 26lb Northern Muskellunge from the North Channel while fishing for walleye. My first look at the fish was when it jumped clear of the water 30 yds from the boat.
In mid September I landed a 30" 22lb Striped Bass from the Atlantic Ocean off of Cape Cod. I was surf casting with a big popper at about 2:30 in the morning on a rising tide. I may never experience a catch like that again. That was my 1st Striper and the 1st time I've done any serious surf fishing.
Obviously I've left out the details, which make them both fun to tell and judging from reactions, fun to hear.
Thanks for the thread.

~ 40# flathead this past september at Lake Marion (Santee Cooper). Didn't get to weigh it, but it was much bigger than my previous best of 34 lbs. I've taken about 10 catfish over 25 pounds at that lake fishing with a guide (that's cheatin, but I dont care)
I try to make it down to Islamorada in the Florida Keys every late winter/very early spring. I think it was about 5 years ago... pulled up a 8 foot nurse shark (approx. 350 lbs) while bottom fishing grouper and snapper off one of the party boats down there. Believe it or not... only using 20 lb. test with NO wire leader!!
Get this....
The very same week I was down there... on one of the boats out of Whale Harbor across the channel... somebody brought in a great white shark caught out on the Islamorada Hump that was 12 foot long and estimated to be about 1200 pounds. The weight was estimated because the scale they weighed it on only went to 800 lbs!!
Can you say.... JAWS!?!

This thread has to be the record for logevity!! It's YEARS old!! Pretty cool. Well, alot of you guys have caught much larger fish than I, but I have a few of my own that qualify as big'ns, at least by my standards.
Last fall I caught a 27", 9+lb brown on the PM (chartruse egg). we weighed him two days after he hit the ice and he was just shy of 9lbs, so just an estimate. I know they lose a little.
the fall of 2001 braught me a 40", 25lb king (light pink egg), while earlier that spring a 32", 14Lb steelhead (stonefly), both from the PM.
the only other noteworthy fish was a 14" crappie back in '95, I think (piece of crap no-name fly that was falling apart), from Cooly lake, in Oakland Co. (there are some real hawg crapp's in that lake).
All caught on a fly-rod. This year I'm hoping to add a pike to the list.

The largest fish I've ever caught was a 28 pound king in the fall of 92' over in Harbor beach. I was only 12 so it was quite the fight for me being that age, fought it all by myself surprisingly. Fifteen minutes later, I reeled in another king that was around 15 pounds or so-I still remember thinking that one was a breeze compared to the first king.

I don't have any photos in my galory. I do have photos of the lake trout and brown trout on my charter fishing webpage (www.trophyspecialists.com). both of those fish were releaseed. Oddly enough, I don't even have photos of my largest fish to date, a bluefin tuna I caught a few months ago. We had two big tuna on at the same time, so there was nobody available to take a photo of the one I caught. It was released without ever being brought into the boat. Many of the photos and stories of my largest fish were published in managazes, however some I don't even have photos of, especially the ones that I caught many years ago.

My most memorable fish were not even the biggest ones I've caught. A few years ago, we were bank fishing for snappers in the Keys. My partner caught a nice one and while trying to unhook it, it bit him on the finger. I gave him a hard time about it. A few fish later and I caught a snapper and when I tried to get the hook out, it bit me and wouldn't let go. Needless to say, I got harassed for that one.
Many years ago, for my bachelor party, a dozen buddies and I got together for a bullhead-fishing contest. We sat on the bank of a lake all night catching bullheads, tending a huge fire, and tossing down mass quantities of refreshments. During the night, with all of us present, a raccoon came right up to us, reached into one of our official tournament buckets, and stole a bullhead. The tournament ended at sunrise and the winner was the angler with the most bullheads. As it turned out, the guy who had the bullhead stolen lost by one fish and he still argues about it (in fun) to this day. Incidentally, I got married later that day and on our honeymoon (a fishing trip), the day after I got married, I caught the biggest pike (so far) of my life, an 18-pounder.

Well I know that this post is rather old, but then so am I, I used to live in the big house at Bailey Creek as a child and would wade in the creek and catch some giant northerns by hand as well salmon in the 36" class. Smelt was plentiful in those days (1969-1976) as well as we would haul about 500 pounds out every week. All of the fish would try to spawn in pond beyond the waterfall, but not enough water was coming over the damn to permit it. So catching large amounts of fish was....well like shooting fish in a barrel!!
34" 1/2" Walleye,13 pounds 3 ounces.Caught it when I was 21,many moons ago.Thought it would be with me forever, but when I got married and moved it got damaged beyond repair.Been working to replace it ever since, those kind of eyes don't come around too often.

Blue catfish are not indiginous to Michigan and I have not heard of any being caught here before. You probably caught a channel cat, which is similar to the blue.

I have been fishing on Erie and Saginaw Bay for 20 years and have never seen a blue catfish, however I have seen thousands of channel cats and some flatheads. I've only seen flatheads on Lake Michigan streams and drowned river mouth lakes. I looked it up on the Internet and the only cats that Michigan has are channel cats and flatheads. Blues are mainly a southern catfish. They are in the Mississippi system. I have no doubt that they have been introduced into some ponds and such and I also would not be surprised that there are some in the Great Lakes, but they are not common, nor have they been for the last 20 years.

I know a river in Michigan that has Blue Catfish in it. There are many many dams before it dumps into Lake Michgan, but there are some blue catfish in there. To date I've caught 6, the largest being 14 lbs.

Caught a huge Sturgeon a few years ago while drifting for Walleyes in the North Channel. 8 lb test on a crawler harmess. Thought a had a snag until it started stripping line. Probably took 30 minutes to boat it after 2-3 runs of going to the bottom in about 60 ft of water. The thing cleared the water right next to the boat and scared the crap outta us!:yikes: We thought it was just a big Wally. My net was no where even close to being big enough to fit the darn thing. My buddy and I estimated it at +/- 50" because it was the length of the rod box. Ugly as hell, but so much fun to catch it. Never got it weighed, threw it back because it was out of season.
I didnt see any one else with a sturgeon on the list.

I think we caught the same fish! LOL:lol:
