Long Thread...sorry all.
Attended the Deer/Turkey expo in Lansing, MI yesterday. I had the privilege to shoot several bows.
Mathews-Switchback & Outback
Wheeler-Baryonyx SD
Bowtech-Allegiance & Independence
Oneida- Pro,Black Eagle & Talon
PSE- Primos, Vengeance & Nova
Checked out (Able to draw but not shoot)
Hoyt- Ultra tec, Vtec, Xtec
Renegade- TX5, TR4 & Nuge
After listening to Bill Wiesner (Renegade Archery) at his seminar about "finding the perfect bow for you and your needs", I started the day trying to narrow down my search for the "perfect bow" for me.
Now keep in mind, I am 90% a deer hunter and 10% paper/3D. I don't pretend to have knowledge in every aspect of the bow (limb design, cam design, string materials..ect) but I am learning. I am the average "Joe" shooter/hunter. I wanted a "forgiving" bow the works in the woods...
All these bows shot very well and looked well made !! I just liked the feel, look, & shot of some over the others.
Bowtech--Very fast bow, draw was OK but felt like it wanted to "jump" out of my hand at the shot.
PSE--of the 3 I shot, the Vengeance was smooth at the draw and the release, a little louder then Mathews and Oneida but could be tamed (shooting a bare bow). Vibration after the shot was also a little more then the Mathews and Oneida. Still a nice shooter and reasonable for speed.
Wheeler- Smooth drawing and releasing, quiet and very little vibration after the shot. Speed was near 300fps too. Very nice.
Mathews--Little difference between the Outback and Switchback, but I like the draw of the Switchback better (The "breaking" point for the let-off wasn't as jerky) and quiet...WOW !! Smooth, Quiet, fast this bow is going to be tough for Mathews to improve upon..VERY VERY NICE.
Oneida--If you can get over the looks, you owe it to yourself to shoot this bow. I liked the Black Hawk over the Pro. As the Pro is designed for the target shooter in respects of speed, draw, ect. The Black Hawk is very smooth (silky as some say) and there was NO vibration after the shot. The speed was nice too. I actually busted the nock off the first arrow when I shot the second arrow.
As of right now..Mathews Switchback and Oneida Black Hawk are neck & neck for my choice.
However, like I said, I wasn't able to shoot a Hoyt or Renegade...yet.
I can say that you need to look at/draw the new "soft" cam on the Renegade, that was very smooth.
The way that I am going by the time I pick out my new bow...the 2006 bows will be coming out ...:dizzy:
Thanks for listening.......
