I'm new to the west side of the state and am looking to catch some kalamazoo river walleyes around the Allegan dam. Can anyone give me a little advice? I'm not able to get my boat out here yet so I'll just be shore fishing. I've never fished walleyes in a river before either, just on inland lakes. Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking 8lb. test should work. What should I use and how?

Used to catch a lot of walleyes just below the allegan dam. Three way swivels with a short lead with just enough slip shot to keep it bouncing on the bottom. Rig the same way as if you were bouncing spawn for steelhead.
There are several areas to fish at the dam. Right on the steps on the west side or anywhere along the parking lot on the east side.
Crawlers seem to work the best IF you can find any this time of the year.
Good luck.......

if you are going to fish the stairs for the walleye. Night time seems to be the best. It is fast water there they usualy drift 3/4 to an ounce of lead.
never could get crawlers this time of year. but yarn balls, flies, and spawn seem to work in the fast water. they also fish minnows on a jig head.
pick a good night and drive down there. There are usualy people there that would offer advice.
