Will the DNR mess with you if you have a passenger on the back of your atv?The LAW says you cant.
And the DNR enforces the law...........

Only if they are there and see you. Then a ticket is presented as a memento.

I'd probably have to say YES ! The law says you can't have a passenger. If the DNR sees you with a passenger they're probably going to nail you. The same way they would if they saw you by yourself coming off the ice by yourself with 90 or 100 Jumbos.
That's the way the law is written, they're going to enforce it.

THAT SUCKS!!!! I spent $7000 on a brand new ATV so me and my nephew didnt have to walk across the ice. Now i have to spend another $5000 to get him one because of a DUMB ASS LAW!!!! You can ride 2 people on a motor cycle,2 people on a snowmobile. STUPID LAW.

Harbor Freight has 4 x 8 trailer kits for about $200 that you can use to haul your atv to the ramp then use the trailer to haul your passenger and gear out on the ice. Works great.

I know it isn't right but I have had the DNR look at me and waive when me and my girlfriend were both on my atv without helmets and that was out of Crocker, but like I said I know it isnt right. Those Harbor Freight trailers work pretty good, I got one last year and it also pulls nice behind the quad, even in the big snow dump we got earlier this year and I only have a 300.

I ride double all the time and have never got stopped, but I am taking a chance. Hopefully my luck will stay with me on that note. We both always have on helmets, maybee that helps? Or maybee it is the mood the DNR is on that day? My brother and friends also have not had a problem, but it is a good idea to wear helmets. tightlinesyall

Thats what I do. Perfectly legal and no chance of tickets.

This subject has been discussed here many times about helmets and 2 riders and towing riders. Should have read them.

You may want to check with boehr, but I believe pulling someone via rope and sled IS illegal, but a trailer is legal.

According to a couple of CO's they do not look to enforce the 2 rider law. They have other stuff to do. I do not doubt if they will give you a ticket but this came straight out of a CO's mouth. You are ok if you have 2 out of 3. 1. helmets 2. sticker 3. double riding. I think most of time you are ok as long as helmets and updated sticker is on your atv. This was told to me very recently when they were checking people. They are looking for other stuff and not that they won't change but let me tell you be careful! I wouldn't let the dumb law stop you from double riding just don't be doing it at 40 with no helmets.

I would be towing my nephew in a fish trap yukon with a tow bar not a rope. Behind my 2005 yamaha 400 kodiak.
P.S. Do you people think i will need tire chains satarday?

I have been told that unless what you are pulling is designed to be ridden in, it's illegal to tow someone behind an ORV.

I think it has to do whether or not what you are pulling has a solid two bar. If you try to pull something with just rope, you run the risk of the sled overrunnig the ORV if you have to stop suddenly. A couple of years ago at Franks at saw a sled designed to be towed by an ORV and the salesman said that it was legal to pull someone in it because it had a solid tow bar.

Our local co in mason county will enforce the double riding law but when Kelly Ross an east side co fishes PM lake he rides double on his dads honda foremen. Wonder if he writes for it?

Alot of things suck, why can you drive snowmobles on some roads but not atvs, you can do whatever you want, as long as you don't get caught.

What he said.:yeahthat: He's all over Fairhaven.
I just got done building a trailer for towing stuff/people out on the lake. From what I gather from this site, and others. Unless the machine has that second seat from the manufactuer, you cant ride double. The law does suck, and should be changed. A helmet should be the only requirment. Call your local state rep., atleast be consitant with snowmobiles/motorcycles. My machine is 800 pounds and is more stable than the car I drive to work.
It doesn't matter if your trailer has a tow bar or not, you can haul anything/body you want with or without a helmet. (makes alot less sense than two up) Ontario requires a rigid tow bar for anything you tow.

I have along with a few other CO's and I am glad they are doing their jobs!
I've talked with Sg. Rock too, he and the rest of the CO's have always been helpful.
Then again I also have visited the field office to ask what I can do to keep our resources safe and secure, so maybe my ideas of a CO are different.
I've found them to be helpful and willing to point me in the right direction on game and fish, more than once.
Wouldn't it be nice if the local PD's would patrol the frozen waters. :yikes:
I'll wager more ciatations would happen then.

When I got to the launch at Selfridge today, Co was there somewhere. Had his truck there along with the 4-wheeler. They are around.
