Mntman:I'm heading up after work today. I have a place in Caseville. I don't call the local bait shop becaues he won't give you a report. I call the Pro Sportsman in Bad Axe. He'll give you a honest report. Besides he's one of the the guys that makes the spoons that everybody goes to Welshes in Caseville for.He has a nice selection at his store and a few that nobody sells but him. Anyway back to fishing. I called last night and he said that they were getting some nice ones at Bayport, out by the pressure crack. I don't know where the pressure crack is but I'll bet by 8am I will. Some where around the North island. My grandson wants to go and catch a 13'' so he can win the contest. We'll you never know. I don't know what's going on at Mud Creek , out in front of Bay Shore Marina there getting a few I hear. Well the only way to know is to go . I'll fish to noon and then head back to town to watch all the stuff going on. He'' want to go also becaues all of the couisns will be up and he wouldn't want to miss anythig. If you have a radio let me know and I'll be on chanel 7-0. That Polar Bear dip has some nice scenery sometimes. And the chick on a stick is ok also. see ya

Plug,
The beach is a public access site in Caseville. It is right behind the Park where all the activity will be this weekend. The enterance is right by the Dairy Queen in town. Should be hoppin this weekend as the weather looks like it will cooperate. :)
Any idea where the Pro Sportsman shop is in Bad Axe ? I need some :fish2: supplies and I might as well get them from him.
Thanks

Toy: I've never seen anybody fish off the beach. The old timers tell me they used to when there were alot of perch. They even drove their cars out a few miles in the good old days. Well we missed that one to. I've been thinking about going out in front of the cementry to about 6 ft. of water or so. Never seen anybody out there either . But you never know. Welsh tells me that years ago when the bait fish would stay in there they would fish there but he said the bait fish have moved down to Mud Creek. Well I would still like to try it.But I don't want to go by myself or with my grandson until I find it safe. About a mile west out of town I see a guy in a fish trap about 100 feet off shore quite often . I always want to stop and see how he doing but it's all private property along the road. He must be there for some reason.
The Pro Sporstman is on Van Dyke after you make that turn and head North on the right hand side. (East) Before Tractor supply and KMart. He has a nice 410ga over and under that I've been looking at for the grandkid ( thats what I tell the wife anyway, you get more stuff when you tell her it's for the grand kids. Hey what ever works. ) If you go to the Polar dip and look up to the top of the hill the place with the long deck next to the road is mine.
You should have been there before the last thaw. They were getting limits of Splake in the river down by the brake wall 3-6 lbs.

Plug,
Plan on trying some where in the area on Saturday am. I will look for your place when I am there. I will have the radio on ... channel 7. May try to hook up with ya..
Have you heard anything about how much ice they have ? Can't find anything on the net about it...
I will stop at the shop on the way up tonight. I am looking for a "guster lure" and I think that is what you are reffering to in your previous post. If he doesn't have it, I am sure I can find one in Caseville. I have a cottage in PA and will be over that way most of the weekend. May have to try the local "beverages under the tent  " as well.

Not sure what a guster lure is but if you find some get me one or call me on the hand radio or stop by so I can get one . Never have too many lures. If I'm out running around ,my white suburban will be in the garage, lay it on the hood and I'll even up with you. I work in Warren so we are close. Ahh PA I'm 57 so I can remember the days of going out to the lighthouse and catching jumbo all day long. Used to have relatives that lived in PA. Years ago I'd join ya for a pop in the tent but now beer and cold weather I'd be peein every 2 minutes. I should be back from Bayport by noon. You know unless I'm slamin them. Yeah right.

Is "Welsh" supposed to be Walsh as in Mike Walsh at Walsh's Bait & Tackle in Caseville? We've bought lots of stuff from him over the years and I've always got a long with him. If you want to drive to Bad Axe to support the Pro Sportsman guy than I'm sure they can use the business too.

Good luck up there!

Not being in the area except on an occasional fishing trip, I've never heard of Shanty Days. Sounds like fun! My trouble is that this year I won't be up to my son's near Vassar until next weekend. It's great to read a little about east side fishing. I get very few responses whenever I ask. Now here's my quiz - Could you folks report in how you did and where? (Just general area - Bayport, Caseville, Mud Creek...I don't need anyone's "honey hole.") All I'd like to know is the area where we might go out - walking - and have some fun catching with a keeper now and then. Thanks ahead of time & tell me more too on what they all do on S Days.

Lu,
I fished for a bit in caseville by the pier. There were a few fish 5-6 feet down in 8 FOW. Couldn't get them to take anything tho... probably all the activity with the machines buzzing around. There were a few people in the bay but I didn't hear how they were doing. Tried in PA harbor and marked a few small fish, but nothing to show for it. All in all, the weather was just great and shanty days was interesting. Kinda like a "buffet" weekend in Caseville with Snow.
