My grandpa has an aqua-vu that I can use when I go home to do some ice fishing over spring break. I've tried it once or twice before, but I always had a problem keeping it pointed at my jig. Can anyone tell me how to keep it pointed in one direction through the ice?
thanks,
joe

Joe,
You can check the Aqua-vu website, they make a standard plastic tripod and a motorized tripod (MoPod) for camera positioning. I've also seen the folding plastic bars with the racheting knob in the center but I'm not sure if the bar will work on the Aqua-Vu cable. I know Cabela's carries the Tripods.

You can try the using the camera in a downward view, on my camera there is a notch on the fin at the back of the camera which you can hook the cable to so you can see straight down. If your camera does not have the notch I have heard of guys using zip ties to do the same thing. It seems to work pretty good for me.

I just twist the cable in the direction that I want to view and snap the cable in the housing of the cable reel. If it overshoots, I anticipate that and wait till it settles into the proper "shot" and then snap it in the reel.

joefsu,
I have a moto-pod now which works great but before I had that I would just put something heavy on the cable once the twist is out and it's aimed at my bait. I notice from your profile you're from Iron River? I hunted there for 20 years, sure miss Riverside pizza. We used to stay on Lake Emily and Stanley Lake, beautiful country!!

joefsu,
I did stay at lac-o-seasons, the Shawaukers, or something like that if I remember right. I think they had a daughter named Angie? I ended up going out with a girl who worked there and she moved downstate with me for a few years. I mostly hunted west of Amasa, just s of Porter Lake. I've shot 2 bears off Gibb City Rd and deer hunted a little near that bar, I think it's called the Wooden Nickel. How do you guys do at deer camp, I've been wondering how the herd is doing lately? You must be a Wykon? Cool area, you're a lucky man to call that home!

Yeah, I'm a wykon and you're right it is the Shawaukers. Don't usually see a lot of dear in the gibbs city area, there are some nice bucks shot there but not anymore than any other area. It's not all to unusually to only see one deer or even nothing on any given day. There are quite a few hunters in the area during the first week of deer season, mostly from downstate and wisconsin. Been stopping at the nickle since I started going to camp with my dad, usually got to be the dd. Actually one of my aunts is the manager of the Wooden Nickle now. And I hunt with the guy who used to own it a few years back, but it wasn't called the Wooden Nickle when he owned it.
