I'm looking into buying a Atlantis AUW 502 Sportsman underwater camera and was wondering if anyone has one. Just wondering if there a good system or not.

Thanks

A buddy of mine just bought the 502, It worked fine at home but after a minute in the water the camera housing filled with water and it shorted out!
You'd think that getting an underwater camera "Water tight" should be something that a manufacturer would have gotten down to a science, but...NOT! Maybe he just got an oddball unit that wasn't properly inspected at the factory, but that doesn't speak well for the QA team at Atlantis.
I did see a couple other cameras in action last weekend though. "The Whale" has a nice rig that looks very portable with a sharp picture, I believe he said it was made by OVS. also "WoodsmanRick" has a brand spankin new Aqua view Scout with a 100' cable and a tripod setup, Really sweet camera! Great picture and the softside case has sunshades integrated into the design. I believe Rick said he picked his up at Franks in Linwood for $200.
Hope this helps ya.

PS. Just noticed that the guys at Southend Productions are using an Atlantis and they obviously use it alot with fantastic results. might want to shoot them a PM or Post and see how they like thiers.

Auto,
I have an Atlantis that I purchased about a year ago. No problems with my unit, but I will say it is kinda bulky with the case. I did modify it a bit, and it seems to work well for me. The moral of the story with cameras is: When the sun goes down, forget 'em. Even though they are equipped with an infra-red lighting system, all the waters at dusk, that I have fished, look like a snowstorm on the screen (particles suspended in the water). I have found my camera useful for finding weedbeds/structure during the summer months, and marking waypoints on my handheld GPS for areas to fish during the ice time. Tight Lines.
