I am heading up to the Houghton Lake area soon. We had planned on fishing houghton for some panfish and a few pike/walleye but that sounds like it might be a bad call. We will be on foot and the walleye grounds sound like a long haul. Has anyone had any luck at Missaukee(spelling?) latley? Not real picky on species but would like something to throw in the pan at the end of the day. Maybe we will just stick to Higgins. How much ice are we looking at up there? Last year it was brutal with the hand auger!!! Thanks for any help!! One more thing....I know the sportsman resort rents shanty's and will give you a lift, are there any others that do this?

Keep us posted on where and how you do. Some friends and I are headed to houghton the first weekend in march.

Lymans on the Lake in Houghton Lake will rent shantys and haul you out. They will also bring you out lunch. Your mainly gonna catch hammer handle pike out of their shantys and an occasional panfish. You'll catch a lot of little pike though.
