Nope I haven't tried flys either. I have heard of guys using flys or another lure above. My Question is how are you trying the second one on? Are you using A certian knot? I would appr. the advice. THANX WATTS

i have used flies at times when a teardrop was not effective. i dont know what pattern they are but they are a meijer dry fly special. brown body with small white wings and a small white tail. i rig them the same as a teardrop with the fly on the terminal end of the line and add a split shot about four inches up. when in the water the fly tipped with a mousie or spike rises real slow and gives those finicky gills something different to see. i have tried black and green flies also but the ones with the white and brown seemed to work best.

I always have one rod rigged with a fly when ice fishing for gills and
much of the time it outfishes a teardrop.
I rig my rods with 2 hooks, the bottom being a tiny ice jig. About 15"
above the bottom jig I attach a small fly with a loop knot so it moves
freely.
Most of the flies I use are ones I tie myself and are similar to small
nymphs used in summer fly fishing but you can purchase regular
nymphs at a tackle shop.
Have an assortment of browns, olives, blacks and my favorite color
is a two tone black with a hot pink but. All have a little tinsel wrapped
around the body to add a little flash and a very slight amount of
hackle wrapped around the head.
The sizes I use are mostly #14 and #16 but when the gills are really
hitting good a #12 is ok.
Don't overload the fly with bait as it will ruin the action. I usually
tip the fly with a spike.
Good fishing and tight lines!
