was just wondering if anyone has been fishing Brandenburgs at all... My son's cub scout troop is having an outting there this weekend and was maybe hoping someone could give a report on some fish around there for the kids to get into... Unfortunately i wont be able to go due to just having back surgery but i am still hopin that i can get some info to put the kids on some fish.. i know alot of the scouts and there parents are ice fishin for the first time so would really like to keep them interested in the sport and having a good time.. Hopefully they will realize its not always about catching fish but the company your with while fishing... Thanks for any info...

sounds like a prime time to teach the skills needed for a knot tieing badge hmm? i was out there yesterday... noon to 5 and we didnt catch one. saw 3 or 4 nice hogs but they wouldnt bite... and i couldnt get the spear on em. they liked the look of my silver and yellow willow spoon w/ a clear yellow bead on it. its just crappy fishing right now. not much to say that can help that. lotsa spearing holes out there! be careful!

From the pier a touch to the north east Shane. ;) From a line of sight should be on the inside of the New Baltimore tower. Should be some weed beds in that area.

if its weed beds ur looking for then either go north of the peir to the big ole white boat house w/ two boats in it and a ton of wood pillons... go about 10 15 ft out into the lake from thos pile ons... plenty of weed beds there... or go on the north side of the peir maybe 10 feet from the peir. its a T peir ur gunna wana walk around that peir and inside the top of the T fish 20 ft from the 90o angle and 10 ft from the peir its self... a big nice weed bed there... but watch out theres alot of spearing holes in that area as well.

well, the weather was great, about 19 scouts showed up with siblings and parents and from what i have heard they had a great time.. some of the kids had never been ice fishin before and a few others only a time or 2 before... as for the fishing, well, to put it mild... it sucked... out of all the scouts and family fishing only 1 fish was caught, a 4 1/2" perch i guess and of course that won the biggest fish, first fish, youngest kid to catch a fish and the most fish awards....lol i wasn't there so i really cant say how hard they actually fished or if it was a play session... i will find out more details tomorrow.. I do know they really liked the jigs that was donated from www.ficiousjigs.com.. also, i guess my brother in law bought some neon colored spikes which got alot of oooh's and ahhh's... actually i had never seen em till he dropped my boy off and showed em to me...lol so i now have a fridge with a bunch of bait i wont be able to use for a couple weeks yet... :help: as for pics, i know there was some taken and i will try to get ahold of em, not that there is any fish to show but the group of scout on the ice and jsut having a great time.. i guess the DNR was taken a "census" when people were comin in(their way of checkin for licenses..lol) and he told my brother in law that most of the fish being caught at brandenburg are usually between 6am-10am and then again about the last half hour of daylight.... i know they said they seen a few fish, some real nice ones too in the holes but they just werent interested in anything.. but all in all, fish or no fish, it was about the kids today and they all had a great time and hopefully will be back out again...
Harry, good luck surviving your household get together sunday and if ya end up getting out gimme a yell, talked to Al tonight and he said u had the night off.. a couple of those are good now and again... Scotty says THANK YOU for wat ya did.... take care..

Back when I was a Cub Scout, we never did anything as cool as this so my hats off to Scotty. Too bad the fish didn't cooperate! It sounds like it's been hit and miss all over today.
We had a big job this weekend so the only way I could get it off was to burn vacation time. At least I'll have a little time to get used to the idea before he can call me Grampa...I'll need it.
Hope to get out on monday morning and give it a shot myself, not sure where yet. I'll give you a shout when I get back. Hope you are up to it for the trip after that.
