Citizens Committee for State Parks Members Announced
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries today appointed members of the Citizens Committee for State Parks, an advisory committee created by legislation which Governor Jennifer Granholm signed into law in 2004. The committee will ensure the public has a voice in the operations, planning and development of Michigan's state park system.
"The governor's vision is to have the members focus on the over-reaching mission to ensure the parks and recreation system remains balanced and endures for future generations to enjoy," Humphries said. "In light of the $1.5 million structural deficit currently facing Michigan's state parks, the DNR welcomes the committee's advice in areas of revenue enhancement and in making sure that programs and services are in place to keep our state parks a world-class resource for our residents and visitors to enjoy a quality outdoor recreation experience."
Serving on the committee will be:
* Mr. Thomas Bailey of Harbor Springs
* Ms. Betsy Clark of Bath
* Mr. Hurley Coleman of Saginaw
* Mr. Tom Ferguson of National City
* Mr. Christopher Graham of Ann Arbor
* Mr. Jim Hendricks of Sault Ste. Marie
* Mr. Robert W. Hoffmeyer of Clarkston
* Mr. Murdock Jemerson of Lansing
* Ms. Kathy Lewand of Birmingham
* Mr. Michael McDonald of Haslett
* Dr. Charles Nelson of St. Johns
* Ms. Mary Pitcher of Benzie
* Mr. Bill Rose of Kalamazoo
* Mr. Todd Scott of Waterford
* Mr. Gary Soukup of Chesaning
* Ms. Janet Howard Washington of Lansing
* Mr. Sam Washington of Lansing
Additional members will be appointed from the Michigan Natural Resources Commission, the Waterways Commission, Travel Michigan and the state department of History, Arts and Libraries.
