I am interested in putting together a woods walk learning day for the children here and their parent(s)

Sometime in June 2005( After school is out?) and it would be an all day adventure, so we need to think food too.

This would be a chance for youngsters and parents, to discover their first salamander, photograph wild flowers, see many different type of wildlife such as waterfowl, turkey, beaver and deer.

Perhaps we could even do some type of woodscraft skills.

First and foremost it would be a chance to just have fun and explore some of the wonders of nature.

Be prepared to get dirty, muddy and tired, and bring the cameras.
Lunchtime will put us on a very scenic ridge over looking a river and a swamp.

This would take place west of Port Huron Michigan in the SGA.

Pack your own lunch and bring a snack to share.

There would be no fee.
Any takers?????

I am a taker.
Me, and good wife Caroline, and the Lanfear girls Ri, Ree, Ray, Ren are interested.
We do our own hikes now, but the girls would benefit so much from your knowledge Trout.
Let us know what date in June will work out, and we will schedule.
It is a good thing you are doing here.

Paul and I would be game if we don't have any conflicts that day although fishing will be high on our priority list that time of year. :)

I'm in. June sounds good. No boots full of slush on the little ones. LOL

Howdy, trout-

You can put the Mollusk clan on the list!

Couldn't think of a better way to spend the day..... ;)

Sounds cool Kirk. What age range for the kids were you thinking?

I think AGES from 4-40 after 40 I'd expect them to supervise.
The terrain is very demanding for all ages.
As far as how many kids I'd like to say less than 24 on any given outing.
I will work up some sort of program:

Map of the area and walk.
Parents should bring a whistle in case they get lost.
Things to seek out.
What to wear ( boots)
Handi wipes, bandages and bug spray will be required.
We will explore uplands and wet lands.
You will have a chance to see many of the smaller things in the woods and swamp lands.
I think the larger animals may hear us coming :)
There are no sidewalks here, it is wild.
I also am very open to ideas and projects we can take part in throughout the day.

You should contact one of the Port Huron schools and invite one of their classes. Not only will you introduce new kids to the outdoors, you will also have a positive effect on their teachers.

If I'm available I'll certainly be there.

HUH? I'm 45 and I need supervision at all times, just ask the Mrs.

Your spoon making would be very interesting for everyone, and the older kids could try their hand at it. Maybe we could wrestle a 2 man pontoon boat down to the swamp? I'll take it down, you bring it back up.;)

Depending on the day, me and the boy will plan on it...

Trout's hikes are the best! He can spot the tiniest little frog that the rest of us would have completely missed. He has a wonderful gift of opening your eyes to things you would normally miss, even though it might be right in front of you. :)

I might tag along and take some pictures if the date works. I'd love to take the kids but I'd rather save the spots for someone else's kids to go who have never had the chance to go on one of these hikes.

Another suggestion in regards to clothing is to wear pants that aren't too thin. Think picker proof. ;)

To be honest TK, I was hoping to recruit a few of you kids to help out :)
They know there way around, and they haven't been there in June.
Those woodlands change every 40 days or so, as far as what you can see.
It wouldn't be the same without you all.
Come on MA ;)

Sounds like an awesome idea!

I know at least my 10 and 13 year olds would be there.
