This year I shot a spike from the ground when it was about 7 yards away. The deer was facing me and about ready to bolt so I shot just inside its left shoulder. I got the deer, but the arrow was not in it. After skinning the deer I found the exit wound on the back of its right leg in the but muscle. The arrow had gone through it the long way. Has anyone else done this? or was it a magic broadhead.

Never done it myself, but have heard/or read from several places there is a baseball size spot in the front that will allow a killing shot. Never heard of shooting one thru from front to back, but your bow must have some balls. ;)
Was it a Muzzy?? No then it was definitely Magic ;)

I can see how it could happen.
What kind of equipment were you using?

I shot a doe this past season that was slightly quartering on ,I shot a little too far forward and the arrow penetrated the back of the shoulder and deflected through one lung ,liver ,caught the edge of the intestines ,and out the rear quarter . The arrow broke in 3 pieces ,with the broadhead end of the arrow completly penetrating the quarter with only about 6" of shaft attached . The doe fell within 60 yards .
I was impressed with the penetration of the Muzzys ,but dissappointed in the shot and the durability of the Easton Carbon Epics . I'm still wondering how that arrow broke in 3 pieces .

I was using a fred bear bow TRX- carbon express arrows and G5 Montec broadheads. The deer went about 40 yards and there was blood all over.

Had A similar situation many years ago. Took 43 yard shot at a 4 pointer aiming at the right side of the deer. It caught my movemetn just as I triggered the release. Arrow entered shoulder pocket perfectly....on the left side of the deer! Arrow went straight through the heart and out the bottom of the deer, and I have never been able to find that arrow to this day. Deer died within 100 yards with ample blood trail. 100gr Thunderhead XX78 26" arrow (overdraw) shooting about 260-270 fps. No "for sures" in deer hunting. .

I am glad you recovered your deer, but would like to go on record to say I would not advocate taking a shot at this angle. The sternum is the strongest bone in a deer's body and an arrow would not penetrate the length of a shoulder unless it were tipped with dynamite. In general, if you shoot at 10 deer facing you, you will probably be lucky to recover three of them. <----<<<

I belive it. at 7 yards those montecs will go through just about anything. They are great broadheads huh?

i wouldnt normally take that shot but i was at full draw before i seen him and as soon as i seen him, he seen me. its too hard to let up when your full draw on a deer and you got a split second to decide.

ok a spike with a 7 yard shot with him hard quartering twords at full draw. I would pass. Even if I belived in my equipment. This is a super low percentage shot. I'm glad you retrived the deer. However I would not recomend the shot again on any deer. It is just too risky to injure the animal. We as bowhunters must realize there are limitations. However, we must strive to make the quickest most humane kills that we possibly can. A quartering twards shot is the worst one we can take.
