So is it actually cheaper to make a quick trip to Canada to buy a new bow. I have heard from a couple different people that it is the only way to go. If this is true, could I get some names/distances of some good Canadian Dealers

Price is an important factor. I try to support the local shops when I can. I hope they'll be there when I need some service or a new string.

I'm from Canada!!

A Mathes switchback ic 1150 smackers with the Taxes,, do the math. You tell me if it is worth the gas and the trouble if they catch you at the bourders. If they do you'll have to pay the taxes on it..

try ebay..

All my bows are bought through local shops, mainly Schupach's in Jackson (great shop)

I have to agree with Grouse hunter. If you want to make sure there is still someone locally to fix your bow, then you should support them so that they stay in business. You have to think long term and not short term. It doesn't sound like the price in Canada is better then here. $1100 cn equates to $928.90us, plus you'll have to pay their taxes and then you may get to pay US taxes upon reentry.

.... for a bow at my local shop before I'd buy it at a "box" store - let alone getting it from Canada (where the exchange rates are NOT favorable).

Besides, I've been pleasantly surprised that my local bow and gun shops are VERY COMPETITIVE on price!

Only way it's cheaper is if you buy a Canadian made bow. Import/export taxes and tarrifs and blah blah....whoever told you it's cheaper in to buy an American Bow in Canada was just wrong or outdated,
