Hey Guys
Answering another post, we were discussing the strangest thing that you have used for bait. I told the person that in the past I have used chicken skin. Now as I do all the cooking that is not problem but you should have seen the look I got from my wife when she saw me cutting it up and putting in a small ziplock bag. I also have a friend that swears by using cut up pieces of surgical glove. What may I ask is the oddest thing that you may have used that turned out productive?

(1) Pearl buttons off a blouse (2) peanut butter mixed with oatmeal (3) leftovers, old minnows-wigs-wax worms, honey, bad venison, fish guts-waste...all frozen into a "pike cycle."

Mini-marshmallows used to catch cat fish when I was younger. Biggest largemouth I've ever caught was on a piece of chicken, not the skin but the actual meat.

When I was a young'n we were known for use small pieces of Bologna (Baloney), caught a few gills and a lot of turtles(in the summer)!
Another "bait" we used when we were young and had no money it was bee larva from that summers hives and also the grubs from the pods off of goldenrod plants.

I used popcorn once when I was about 10 years old. It worked but I've never used it again.

Perch eyes :yikes:
I've caught more perch through the ice on Lake Erie using perch eyes and a Swedish Pimple than any other bait.

Not the strangest bait I have used, but once while ice fishing with my long time fishing bud,we were bored and he picked his nose and pulled this big white stringy booger out of his nose and put it on his hook. Not long after that, bam !fish on.I told him you make sure that fish makes it in your bucket there is no telling what that fish has been eating.Didnt mean to gross out you weak stomached people but that is a true story I kid you not.

I have used red berries of a bush, and got some gills on em, also caught a nice bass on pink bubble gum one time. Last year I caught a nice cat on the Huron. When I got it home and cut it open it had 3 fully intact hot dogs in its belly. One had a tiny snelled hook in it. Sounds like someone was using inferior tackle, but the fish liked the bait.

My friend just did that last week and it worked. He even used the same booger twice.

We'd use the "red ring" from around the piece of bologna, also used gum, more than a few times. Just needed to catch one,, then start poppin' out their eyes and use those.

Last summer on the river fishing for browns at night my buddy pulls out a new fly pattern he'd tied. The body material was made from a glow in the dark condom. He put on a clinic that night catching fish when the hatch started.
I now have two dozen of them.

Years ago my wife would buy whole chickens and I would cut them up for her. I would save the fat off the rear end and cut it into very small pieces for bait. We used to go to Fletchers Pond and I'd take 4 or 5 kids with me. We'd used allot of regular bait, you know kids. The chicken fat will stay on your hook for ever even after catching many fish. Caught allot of perch and gills up there using chicken fat.

Last Spring there were tons of bluegills hanging around my parents dock. One of my nephews through in a Gummie Bear (soft candy) and the water started to boil. It didn't take long for us to catch dinner after that.
we used to use bologna when I was a kid and catch bluegills on Upper Straits Lake and blades of grass when we ran out of bologna
used gummy worm bits on Saginaw Bay off Palmer Rd. and caught Perch last spring.

I've used Goldfish for pike spearing before. I had some big goldfish in my aquarium so I put one of them in a big mason canning jar with warm enough water to keep the goldfish alive long enough for me to do a test run. Thought it would work great but I didn't notice any difference in pike activity!

I cant say for sure, and I have neither the time nor the desire to look it up, but I believe that may be illegal. I know that is is illegal to use them as bait, but I am not sure about a decoy.

I have no idea about the decoy legality.......I know you cant use em for regular fishing. I am not sure the exact intention of the law but would suspect it has something to do with introducing non-native animals to the water. I wasn't too worried about it, if that goldfish can figure out how to unscrew the lid to that mason jar we've got bigger problems!!!

Got frustrated one day because I'd tried everything in the boat, except the pretzels we were munching on. So I tied one on & threw it out. Didn't work either.
I caught a shark in florida on biscayne bay we cut up some of the meat to use for chum, I brought a chunk home perch loved it.

I'm not sure of the legality of it, I was also only 10 at the time, but we used small albino frogs to fish for perch ice fishing on LSC. I had a dozen or so that my grandfather gave me to try. I swear to god we caught JUMBOS on every one of them. The dinks wanted them, but the frogs were a little too big for them.

I've,never tried it,but my Grandfather, used to put a piece of red rag on a hook, and swish it off the local bridges to catch pike.
He claimed to have caught alot of them that way.
