From 1996-2004 the DNR stocked 496,132 walleyes in Lake Orion. I hear about people catching one occasionally, but haven't heard about anyone catching numbers of them. When they do get one, they are big. I haven't specifically targeted walleye, but with as much time as I spend on the ice/water you would think I'd catch one by accident by now.

Is anyone fishing for Orion walleye?

PM me if you want to keep it quiet.
Thanks,
DuckDog

Don't know my self, but I'll e-mail a co-worker that lives there. If I hear
of anything I'll post a reply. But he knows I fish and hasn't mentioned the
walleye yet. He's mentioned bass and pan fish before.

Bass fishing is so much better than the walleye. The lake is questionable on the pollution. I wouldnt eat anything caught out of that lake, there fore I fish for bass. I suspect they get eaten up by the local pike population. There is a alwive population in L. Orion too.

Lake Orion had a tremendous bass fishery until it became infected with largemouth bass virus. Last year the bass fishing sucked compared to what it was like prior to the virus. Please do whatever you can to prevent LMBV from spreading.

Keep in mind that is the number of fry planted or fish no bigger than 3-5 inches.
Out of that number only 2-4% is expected to live the first year.

I bet the bass loved the free lunch. If you were to assume only 1% of the fry survived, there would be 4961 walleyes left. If you assumed they were spread out evenly throughout the lake (which I'm sure they are not) then there would be about 10 walleyes per acre. I guess I should spend some time trying to catch them.

The fry are not spread throughout the lake they are dumped in at the public launch. I was there the first year they planted. I do catch a few each year in the 18"-22" range while bass fishing.

There is a couple specific areas that are better than others. I have released all the eyes that I have caught. ;)
