Howdy,

Anyone on here have any experience with using augers (either power or hand) that shave the ice instead of chip it, such as the nils master or other such curved blade units, lazers or whatever? Im interested in getting some feed back as it relates to fishin the bay mainly, would appreciate any info.

Seems like most everyone uses the chipper bladed units, Jiffy, strike master etc. and I'm wondering if its because there's too much sand in the ice and the shaving styles units don't hold up. Thanks
Bing

Bing, first welcome to the site. Alot of the companies use the chipper style on the larger diameter holes, there are more choices available on the smaller diameter holes curved or chipper. This being said, it makes a person wunder if the chipper blades are more durable? The curved style blades will cut much faster when sharp but you may be right about the chipper style being able to withstand some abuse :)

I have the strikemaster mora in 6 inch..I am not sure about how more durable they are, I had newer blades (bought this year) and we ewent out to a spot on a local lake where in the summer I caught some nice gills...well the water was a lot lower and the ice a lot thicker then expected (actually frozen solid and we eneded up driling into the dirt about a 1/2 inch and those blades were destroyed...they wouldn't even cut in at all...well long story short I now have my second set of blades for this season
