Heading to Simcoe on the 10th to fish a long weekend. Never been there but we are going out of the Pefferlaw area. Renting their shanties seeing we don't have room for all the passangers and assorted equipment. What jigs and bait seem to work best. Any advice would be appreciated.

A variety of jigs work. Jack spoons or Kens spoons. Jigging Raps size 2 r 3. Last week was killing them on a jig-a-whopper, walleye sized tipped with a perch eye, although i understand now that it's not legal bait. I also caught many fish on a Hali's tipped with spikes. Put enough on to cover the hook. The biggest trick is to jig like crazy to attract them bouncing off the bottom to stir things up and then also up high to attract the higher fish and then leave it set still for 30 seconds. If you catch a fish, make sure someone else keeps there jigs moving to keep the school there. If you're using minnows, it doesn't really matter what much what you hook them on. The problem with minnows is it takes too much time to re-bait and get your jig back down to the school. You need to catch as many as you can while they are under you, especially if you're fishing in a permanant hut and don't have the ability to get out and move around. Personnally i would take a 4 inch hand auger with you so you have the option of moving around when nothing is happening in the hut. They cut pretty good even through the 15 - 18 inches of ice you'll have. Good luck.

Thanks for the info Skamaniac, I'll give it a try and see what happens. We are going to take an auger in case the weather is nice so we can move around.
