?VEXILAR question??

I,bought a FL8se,Saturday.It is much noisier than my buddies old black&white CLASSIC,which is silent.
Do they usually make some noise?It's not really loud,just kind of annoying to listen to for hours.Wondering if that iis normal or should I take it back?

I was concerned when I first got my FL18 also, called vex service and was told that the drive motors do make "some" noise and that I shouldn't be concerned as long as the noise was a "constant humming" . There should not be any clicking noise which might occur if unit is dropped or the spindle becomes bent/damaged. My unit has been operating perfect for 2 years with the humming noise.

I,kind of thought it was normal,but not having fished with one before,I wasn't sure.You can't hear my buddies old B&W at all,so wasn't sure.

The one you refer to as the black/white was the clearwater classic, it has no moving parts more of a lcd . The noise your hearing is normal :)

The noise is normal as already said. My vex 18 also emits the hum but it is'nt even noticeable when you're inside your shelter and your icing fish after fish. Or in my case this past weekend, not icing fish but cursing at them for not coming to dinner at my scrumptious table of jighead ala blue minnow.

LMAO Callie!!!!!!! We've all been there. Sometimes all my Vex does is make me mad. I see fish all over the place, but noting will bite. They will just follow my bait and look at it like it's a friggin topless model. Thats when it's time to experiment and try everything you have in your arsenal. I usually can get some to bite no matter what the conditions are. Good luck on the ice everyone.

The noise will chill the more you use it. The FL-10 on my boat makes even more noise.

That is one of the big things I liked better about my ClearWater Classic over my Vex ... Quiet!!! After a while you will not here the Vex though. The old ClearWater Classic was a great machine, and there are several things about it I liked battter than the Vex. That said the Vex has its advantages as well ... COLOR (much easier to distinguish than the 'grey scale').

Boy I wish I would not have sold that ClearWater Classic.

The sound of a vex humming is music to my ears! :)

It will make some noise but it will quiet down somewhat as it gets broken in.
