Just a quick question. About how much would it cost at the average archery shop to have a compound bow tuned, and maybe a new string put on? My bow is out of tune and I'm due for a new string, so i was just wondering about what it would cost.

whats involved in a tune up?
on my long bow ,its a new string and a knock point.
i imagine they have to lube all the spinning parts. examine the cagle and all those bits. must be about an hour of labor anyway. maybe $60plus parts?

I am surprise not many people have posted to this question it is an easy one. A tune up will run you about $40 and a new string depending on the quality any were between $12-$30.

Anybody have a step by step list of all the things you would do, to give your bow a complete tune.

Good tune should include total break down of bow limbs tanken apart and all joints and bushing repact with grease or oil. Cams should be taken off and axles should be examed for were and straightness, if you have ball bearings then those should be examed as well and regreased or oil. For total tune I would install all new strings and cables. I beleive a tune should happen about every two years unless you shoot an alfull lot then every year. Reason I do this is because I get a new string every year and cables every other year so while the shop has the cables and string off they mine as well do total break as I stated above.

Please do not take your bow to a box store were you may get some goof ball kid or unexperienced adult working on it. Take it to a pro shop that is why they are their and they were their first.

Hope this Helps,

What kind of grease is packed in the bushings. I thought a dry lubricant like graphite was used. I know guys who have gone years, if not decades with doing this. Is 2 years just an aggresive suggestion and every year for the daily shooters.

If your talking tuning your bow for shooting which you will have to do after getting a string anywase it could run around 20-40 depending on the pro shop and what and how they do it... I would only go to a pro shop to do this. Alwasy money well spent. If your talking about a tune up and getting it tuned for your bow then if could be more.

If you get a new string and have a newer bow look at strings by Bowman. His are the best there are in my opinion. Def worth the money. It will cost you though but well worth it. For my bow its about 100 bucks for string and cables and instalation. Way better than winners choice, he can increase your poundage and speed a little and his strings do not stretch on you or creep.

The cost is only worth the quality of work done on the bow too.

Cheap does not at all times equal good workmanship, nor does the HIGH price equal good work.

How much has the person knows and how long have they worked on the bows. Has the person proved themselves?

To pay a high price and get quality work is worth it all too.

Most String and cable jobs cost about 60-80 bucks and 10 -25 bucks for labor.

The bow must be taken apart and fully lubed and checked over and everything lined up right! Just taking it apart does not mean you did a good job eather.

Know the person that works on the bow.......and how much they know first is important!

Ask questions when you do not know something......
