I know several of you have stayed at simcoe over night. It seems a fair number have stayed in one of the huts overnight. My question is if you have stayed in a hut overnight, and stayed in a hotel overnight, what is your opinion on what you prefer? What is the price for an overnight hut? What is the best price you have found for a hotel or whatever this year? And if possible can anyone useing either place give some of us that have never been a better idea of what to look for or expect.

You might get a better response by posting this in the ice fishing forum.

First my 2 cents, I wouldn't waste the money, I've went 3 time and it's been slow unless you want to catch 9 inchers.. But do a search on simcoe fish huts... Or Randy or Kingfisher fish huts.. Good luck, but its at least a $200 trip...

Simcoe is big water, when your on them you catch them, when your not you don't.

I just got back from simcoe and rented a hut for the day because i had my son with me. normally I just use my own gear but wanted something very comfortable for a 6 year old.I used luckys out of lefroy and they are extremely friendly and have nice huts.the fishing is decent because the huts are located in spots where trout, whitefish and perch can be caught.if you are going strictly for perch take your own gear so you can move around. start in 10ft water then move out as the day progresses.there are 9 inch fish, but there are a lot of bigger fish as well, if you want bigger fish wait til late feb early march when the spawner females come in, they definitely average bigger than 9 inches.get a room rather than a sleeper and you will be more mobile.have fun.

I too prefer to take my own gear. It's cheaper and you're more mobile. It's true the big hens move into shallower waters like the ever popular Cooks Bay, but the bigger fish can be found fishing deeper water. If you only plan on one trip, late Feb or early Mar, but also if now is the only time you can go, stay away from Cooks Bay unless you're satisfied with keeping one out of four fish which are mostly 8- 9 inchers. But it can also be non-stop action. Our last trip with 5 guys, we figured each one of us caught between 150 -200 fish a day. Lot's of sorting! Have fun!

P.S. If you do go with a hut operator, make your you get one that will move you. Rick at Simcoe Fishing Adventures is good out of Keswick for Cooks Bay action. I personally prefer fishing Georgina and Thorah islands.

Thakns for all the responses.I dont mind keeping 9 inchers thats a nice fish as far as Im concerned.I will probably only get there once this year so maybe wait until late this month or early next month. Thanks again..
