I have heard rumors that Hoyt is over taking Matthews when it comes to the king of Bows. I am looking to buy one or the other, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to which is better and why. I plan to use it to hunt and target shoot in the offseason.

Unless you shoot one brand better than the other ofcourse. Both offer excellent products, top notch design etc. If either bow fit you well and feel "right" to you than that is the best bow. Hoyt has put a big dent in Mathews sales in the last couple of years, but Mathews is hardly hurting!!
Don't go looking for bows with your mind made up on Hoyt or Mathews though, plenty of good companies that have great offerings like AR, BowTech, PSE, Parker, etc. Shoot as many different bows as you can, and take your time with the search.
As for me, well Hoyt is the King!! Long live the King!!

Nah, just the "Ford versus Chevy" is all. It'll go on as long as each one exists. I think it makes each company produce a better product, always trying to one up each other. Now money would be better spent in product development/enhancements rather that questionable advertising.

To each his own . I have own both brands along with a couple others ,each has it's own merits . I'm not loyal to any bow manufacturer . I shoot what I like ,not what the current best seller or most Hyped bow is , and I would suggest those shopping for a new bow to do the same .

TRY them all, then make up your mind. I chose mathews....
love the smoothness and the almost no vibration and sound it makes..
but thats just me.. :bash:

I currently have a matthews and a browning bow, would I shoot a hoyt hands down yes I used to shoot them in comp. Are there better bows out there im sure there are depends on what you like and how much you want to spend. Also dont base your choice on price, alot of people think the more it cost the better it is. Im a firm belever that its not the price tag that makes a shooter, its how well the shooter uses the bow. Like alot of these other guys have said, just try out as many bow as you can and buy the one that feels and shoots the best for you, dont gey caught up in the advertising hype

I own a 2 year old Hoyt Ultratec with which I have taken 10 deer. I am very fond of it and it shoots well if I do my part. I recently bought a Mathews Switchback. I was at the shop where I bought my Hoyt and he sells both Hoyt and Mathews. I made the mistake of shooting the Switchback and could not resist it. I will keep both bows for years to come . I have only owned 5 bows in my life and I still own 4 of them . Sold my back-up bow to a friend just getting into bowhunting. Shoot several different bows and brands until you find something you like and do not get one someone else tells you to. I like the reputation that Hoyt and Mathews has as for relability and customer service.

I just recently bought a Hoyt XTec. But before I did, I shot about a dozen different bows using my own arrow. It just so happened the Hoyt shot and fit me the best.

All are great bows. Add Bowtech to that list too. And if you claim you don't like those brands, I'd be more than happy to take some of those "junky" bows off your hands, if you're giving them away. ;)

I used to shoot a hoyt and now shoot a mathews. There is little difference. I feel that the bow does not make the archer rather the archer makes the bow. You cant lose with either decision. Good luck and shoot straight!

Mathews vs Hoyt? Heck I let them battle it out.
Martin or Bowtech would be the better choice. Ol Matt McPherson is still wallowing in old technology, Hoyt is mass marketing Darton's hybrid cam, Martin is still building the most accurate bows in the world, and Bowetch's new binary equilizer cam will probably put them all out. Oneida still builds the smoothest drawing most shock free shooting bows as they have for the past 30 years, and joins smaller companies like Concept, Newberry, Bladerunner, and Wheeler which make just as good if not better quality bows than any of the top names, yet offer a customer service that can't be touched. I for one choose CS over bow brand. That's why you'll see me shooting a Concept, or an Oneida for a long time...Newberry might join that list, but I currently have too many other arrow slingers in the stable to really want to venture new waters.
Rumors are usually started by shop owners when they want a customer to buy a certain brand bow so they can make more money off of that customer. Don't get me wrong, small shops like that are great for the sport of archery, however they are biased and will steer a customer wrong. You've already started on the right path. You are here on the internet researching. That's the best you can do as of now. Research companies and their user base to determine what it is you're looking for. I can already tell that mentioning Mathews and Hoyt right off the bat that you have been pursuaded by advertisments and so forth. For the record, Mathews didn't win a single ASA event this past year, they didn't finish anywhere near the top in vegas, and I know that PSE took IBO Worlds. I see this all the time and I wonder how they can advertise the way they do with wins.
Just remember, we are part of a society that thrives on technological advances...the solocam is a fossil, that's all I'll say about that.

Watch out for Whisper Creek guys .They will be the hottest bow company within the next 2 years . They have the technology .

All I have to say is shoot them both and also a few of the other brands out there. You'll be surpised. You may go with something else.
I currently have a 2005 Hoyt ViperTec and a 2003 Hoyt DynaTec, but I went with them because of how they felt to me.

GvDocHoliday said it best. I beleive Mathews and Hoyts are excellant equipment but if you are looking for the best neither of these companies are. The newer companies like concept archery are coming on strong and do not forget the older smaller companies like Oneida. But I beleive who have to shoot as many bows as you can get your hands and then shoot the ones you like and then determine it that way. I just went through buying a new bow last spring and probley shot about 12 different bows some by the same manufacturer and others different and yes I did shoot the mathews and hoyts but decided with Bowtech Justice.
Best of Luck and Good Shootin.

The Oneida's throw in some cool extra's as well.....sound effects! The .410 shotgun blast :yikes: you get when you touch the release is free, yet their is no recoil...pretty cool indeed! ;)
Sorry, Couldn't resist! :)

What....what was that.......I couldn't hear you. :lol::lol: (I shoot an Oneida Aero-force)
Loud as all get out but the smoothest drawing bow hands down. If they could only make them quiet they would own the industry. IMO.

Yes, they are butter smooth!! I have shot them on a few occasions and spent time at the Buck Pole while a friend got his setup. I really enjoyed shooting them and shot pretty well with them. Maybe the newer models are a bit quieter. Nothing wrong with Oniedas, just had to poke a little fun!
It will be curious to see how succesfull companies like Concept and Whisper Creek are with some of the new technology. I doubt they will set the archery world on it's ear, but they may eventually make an impact. Sometimes this new tech stuff takes a while. Companies like Wheeler and Newberry have been at the game for awhile now, and no doubt have some excellent and interesting bows, but they have had a hard time breaking into any mainstream. And Wheeler even had a head start with the Blue Mountain name plate.
There are a lot of good companies and good products out there and we all benefit! Mathews and Hoyt are just the two big dogs at the top of the pile, but Bowtech and AR are nipping at there heals!
( I have often wondered why PSE chose to start a new line instead of adding the new AR's directly to their PSE line up? Was it because PSE seemed to lose some of it's glory in the mid 90's?) Just thinking out loud....

There are a lot of equally good bows on the market , marketing is what seperates the big companies from the smaller or newer companies .Multiple page ads in every major bowhunting magazine gets more brand recognition for the top brands like Mathews and Hoyt .That's what seperates them from the smaller companies .

I thought AR was its own company and PSE bought them out.
Kinda like bowtech and diamond now.

I just went through the same deal, Hoyt or Mathews.
I have been shooting the same Pse for years. But it was time for a new bow.
I was in a pickle with the outback or switchback vs. Vipertec. I shot them both time and time again. I changed my mind 3 times. Couldn't choose. Couldn't choose. Until I found out that I needed a new mount for my scope if I bought the Hoyt. $100.00. So I bought the switchback.
That is the only reason I bought the Mathews.
If wasn't for that I would have flipped a coin. All three are amazing bows.
Just my 2 Cents.
