Was wondering if the fishing is picking up over near Gino's or Metro?Drove past Gino's this morning and there was quite a few cars in the lot.Going to go out this weekend for the first time, just want to know whats going on over there and if it would be a good place to start.Dont want to go if everyone is still catching dinks everywhere.I would just assume to stay home and get the honey do list done:lol: Let me know whats happening over there .Thanks Ted

Ted, LSC has got to be the most "unpredictable" place to fish,, the reason being, there are 3 factors that come into play.
Weather, ice and fish,, rarely do all three cooperate at the same time. The first couple seasons on LSC I just took my "lumps" and chalked it up to be a "learning experience". If you're a first timer,, I'd honestly wait until theres more ice to cover, seems like the fish just aren't under the "fishable ice" right now.

I fished out off Gino's from 10 to 4. Caught 3 Perch. Biggest was 11 3/4. Very slow. Beautiful fish, just not many out there being caught at all! I was in my shanty, but I kept getting out and talking to everyone. Everybody's action was a distant second to a good nap. I heard alot of guys that didn't even have a bite. Murky water, visibil was about 2 feet max. Ice was 6 to 8 inches. I started out in 8 foot of water. I kept working my way out in 100 meter increments. By 4:00 I was in 11 foot of water. I was out a good ways, and there was still guys farther out than me. They had to be in 12 FOW. Even in my 11 fow, there was still 6 inches of real good hard ice. There was roughly 10 to 12 four wheelers out there. They were being smart, driving slow, using their brain. There was 6 atv's out beyond me if that gives you an idea of the ice. Oh and by the freakin way. I sure as hell hope it was nowone on this site. But you wanna know what I caught the most today? Trash! Let's see: I've got 1 Mt Dew bottle, 1 coke can, 5 bottles (empty sadly) of Budweiser, 1 Bud Light box, 1 farmer jack plastic bag, and 1 G-damn scarf! I'm tired of picking this s*** up after you *****holes. And anyone that thinks I'm playing around, get the word out. Spread the word. When I see pukes littering the ice, I'm gonna kick you in the balls. Hard. I'm always in a brown Carhartt suit, I got a Gander Mountain ball cap on, and it's got a Tazer 2 on the bill for my glow lures. SOB, these litterbugs piss me off. Would you squat over your mattress and drop a stink pickle on your comforter? Probably not. Then quit littering the ice. I'm thinking about starting a secret society. Like Fight Club. Vigilante justice on litterbugs, whose with me? Anyone want in? That's my pissed off report.

I am with you fish eater. I was at metro a couple of weeks ago and saw an a**hole take his empty propane canister and throw it across the ice. This guy also urinated on the ice, but he was looking at the houses facing the bay, I mean, turn around so that the people that are in their houses don't have to see what god gave you. This guy had no class, who wants to see this guy pissing. Everyone has to piss when they are out there, but most people are a little more discrete about it. I wanted to kick his a**. Him and his buddy must have been high or something. I yelled at him, but he acted like he could not hear me. He better hope that he does not run into me again. Guys like this make us all look bad.

Great reports guys. I'll be giving it a try Tomorrow.

As far as that guy taking a leak on the lake he needs to practice. Next time you see him give him this site.

I'm sorry about that Steve. I forget that there's young hooksters on here reading this. Sorry about the language, but I'm very frustrated with litterbugs on our waterways. And for you young anglers on here: the language I use is wrong, don't do it. And so is littering. Please don't grow up to be a litterbug. Be the bigger person.

Way to get up on the 'ol soapbox Fisheater! I'm right with ya buddy.
These slobs need to go back home or some other dirty place.
And while we're at it-I don't want to see any dinks laying dead on the ice.
Too much of this has gone on in the past. Looks like this weekend
is shaping up to be a mighty fine circus.

Same here Big Laker. Dead dinks on the ice really raise my blood pressure. I usually try to get them in the water and revive em. 90% of the time it's to late and they're frozen solid. Get the word out guys. Put those little guys back in and let em grow up to be jalopies. Once you put em back in, they're not gonna bother your bait anymore. You've already scared the beejesus out of em. It seems to be getting better with releasing the dinks I must say. I remember when I was a kid in the 80's and there would be tons of em dead all over the place. More public awareness these days I guess. Seems like we're banding together to protect our resources more, but there's always that 10%. Oh and hey Stringer. No, you can be the President in my society. I just wanna be the Secretary of War.;)

Sometimes the train of thought derails at the curve...It happens....no biggie.

Ginos will only be getting better as the season goes along...Biggest fish always come out of there last ice in march. They are just now showing up, but I think it would be worth a shot. You won't get a limit, but a dozen 10-12" is a couple of meals.

Oh yeah.....another thing.......Make sure you throw the mudpuppies back as well. Seen 1 on cotten yesterday...Glad my daughter wasn't with me, she would have freaked out!!!!

I keep an ice fishing log and we did'nt get the jolopys until Feb. 10 last season. Some folks may have got them ealier but most likely not. Sorry to derail your tread tedshunter I no I would'nt like it. But with things so dead crap happens and I will try to reframe from this practice. Once things level off we'll be in.

In regards to the mud puppy, if I am not mistaken they fall in the salamander family and are protected. Get caught by the DNR and you will wish you had thrown it back.

What are the best baits and lures for perch around Gino's, Brandenberg Park etc. What is the best place to get on the ice to get to Gino's?

perchguy
01-26-2005, 01:01 PM
Mud puppies are salamanders and I believe they are protected. A conservation officer told me that they help keep the lake clean by eating dead organic matter on the bottom. The best reason to throw them back is that it is wrong to kill any thing for the sake of killing it, gobies excepted.

Can you get a 4 wheeler on the ice from Gino's parking lot? The last time I was there about 4 years ago you could not get with a 4 wheeler. I saw some people try and they all tipped over.

Made the rounds today to see what is happening and get out of the house for a while. I have a cast on and it would take some real good reports to get me out. Not happening right now!!! Stopped by Crocker,Gino's,SANG,Cotton and Brandenburg. Spoke to guys at each site and all the news was the same. Getting some fish but all small. One guy at Cotton seemed happy w/ his catch and said he got some decent perch and a few nice gills. Also spoke to the CO's and they said it sucks everywhere right now. Good luck, sooner or later.....right?? I might have to take advantage of the ice taxi at Cotton. At least I can have him punch me a few holes and hope they show up. BTW, he will not be running it this Friday he said.

To the people crying about the cans and garbage waht about the stuff you can't see like the raw sewage comming down the clinton river or the millions of gallons of vynal chloride being dumped by the plastics plants on the st clair river. For those of you that don't know one exposer to vynal chloride can cause cancer they accedently dumped a few million gallons a couple of summers ago and who knows how any other times they've done it. I can pick up after myself but I cant clean the whole lake why bother.

Just got back from Gino's. I was there before daylight and stoped fishing around 1pm. I fished close in 7' of water and out to 10'. My guess to the depth of ice is 8" to 4". I got maybe 15 dinks and 4 keepers (2--9"ers & 2a little over 7".) I moved around a lot and maybe fish 20 different holes. I did see some ATV out there and you can put them in at Gino's. Also it cost me $5 to park there this year. Most of the fish I seen on the ice were DINKS :( . That's my report. Good luck.

Wow, that's a great attitude to have. Let's all just stop picking up after ourselves. We'll all just give up cuz we can't control the chloride. Great message to send to younger people jd. Gee thanks.

I dont argue I'm just stating my opinion. let me elaborate I pick up after myself and If I come across some garbage I'll pick it up but I'm not gonna go out of my way to do so. I've been on the lake with 35 mph winds and If I take something out of my bucket and the wind catch's it I'm not going after it. I spent an hour chaseing the lid to my minnow bucket before. Lots of people loose stuff to the wind and they don't chase it I don't blame them. So just because theres some garbage on the lake dont mean we're all slobs. The plastics factory's are doing more damage then any beer cans ever could. All I'm saying is theres far worse things then beer cans and plastic bags in the lake. This is my last post on the subject sorry for interupting the thread.

Dont worry Jd it only got interupted about 32 times:) no biggie, but you are right there are far worse things in the lakes and streams than beer bottles and such.Where is all that money going? Now let's start catching some fish so these threads will stay on course.I know everyone is getting bored.
