I haven't bow hunted in about 12 yrs. Bought a Hoyt XTec (60# limbs) and with the new technology am a little confused about what sight & rest to buy. Thinking about a Spot-Hogg Real Deal and a QAD Ultrarest Dropaway. Will use for treestand hunts and targets during off-season. Any recommendations.

I would recommend a Whisker Biscuit rest .It's the best hunting rest made . Spott Hogg makes a good sight .

QAd is a decent rest. Not too awful popular but I haven't heard of any issues.

Leaders in the game are...
Rests
Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter
Trophy Ridge Drop Zone
Golden Key TKO
Muzzy Zero Effect

I've used all of them an the most versatile in easist to setup was the Trophy Taker. All are great though.

Sights? There are a bunch out there and these are only my fav's
Spott Hogg
Copper John (great sight but get the C.u.p. if you get a deadnuts. I went through 3 sets of fiber during the 2004 deer season)
Impact Archery....I had a Cosmic for years and they're a great BRIGHT site fo a reasonable price.

Looks like your going big though with the Xtec, Spott Hogg....some of the best in the industry. My vote is for the Trophy Taker.

Save the Biscuit for breakfast
(Sorry Tn....couldn't resist)

I shoot a Drop Zone and love it. I would go with the base model, you don't need all the micro adjustments, once it is square its there!!!

It ran me around $90.

I have a home made singal pin sight with a meprolite site pin, and a Hind site.

I like it but am not 100% sold on the hind site, I like the concept but it takes so getting use to in low light. In my opinion it is definately better than shooting a peep but still takes some getting use to.

Jsu my 2 cents.

The best HUNTING rest, in my opinion is the Silent Solution or Arch Rival. This rest uses rotating rubber wheels that will let you draw in complete silence. Nothing else can come close, and all others make some noise...period. I have been recommending this rest on this site for years, and anyone who has tried it in the past would agree. If you don't use this rest, it is just a matter of time before you spook a nice buck upon drawing... End of story. <----<<<

If its strictly for hunting then a Biscuit is the way to go. 100% reliable, you can't knock an arrow off if you tried, and its really easy to tune.

I'd have to second the Trophy Taker shakey hunter. This rest combined with the NAP arrow holder thingamabob is unbelievable. The NAP product I am referring to is a piece of black rubber channeling with adhesive on the back that goes on the shelf. With the channel installed, you can rotate the bow 90 degrees in either direction and the rest will still pick it up. It is also deadly silent.

Whisker Biscuit .:p

The Whisker Biscuit sounds like THUNDER compared to the Silent Solution.
They may be a decent rest, but a little too loud for my liking. To each his own I guess. <----<<<

So I hear that the biscut is a nice rest as long as you have the time and the money to repair your vains forget shooting feathers out of them. I do not forget when the biscut get wet and freezes in MI great winters it is going to shoot alot different. If you just want a basic simple rest I would recommend going with a fork rest or a plunger style rest. I have used many rest in the past and I still end up going back to one of these style of rest.

good luck and shoot straight

I also use Impact's cosmic sight its light gathering capabilities are awsome, but I'm thinking of trying a Pollington red dot sight, as for rests I use the W.B. it a great rest-mine is QUIET I get NO niose out of it when I draw although mine is pretty old and has several thousand shots thru it, some people do say that they have noise issues with it from my understanding the finish on your arrow and how new the disk is seem to be factors in this. Being fairly new to archery I would start out with a containment type rest especialy if you are shooting fingers. The reason I say that is nothing is more frustating that an arrow falling off when you draw, it was for me but back then there were no containment rests and I dont remember releases but everybody I knew shot fingers.

Whisker biscuit has done me no wrong, has not messed up vanes or feathers, did not freeze and was quiet enough that i took one eight point and two old does.Kept my arrow in perfect shooting posistion no matter what, i will say that the drop aways are even more quiet, just find out what you like and are comfortable with  Have fun experimenting and trying stuff out!

First off, thanks for all the great replies.

Decided on the Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter rest. The 2 things I was looking for was simplicity and ruggedness. As for the sight, I found a Spot-Hogg Real Deal on the net for under $100. I don't need all the bells & whistles but from what I read and hear it's pretty much "bullet-proof". My local pro shop swears by Impact's cosmic sight and maybe down the road I'll put that on my 24 yr. old PSE as a back-up. Thanks again!

Can't shoot feathers out of a whisker buscuit? Try it before you bash it, mine look and perform just great with over 1000 shots on them. And as for it tearing up vanes 90% of the vanes on the market work great with it. If your vanes or feathers are getting torn up with using the biscuit then your bow is'nt tuned properly. My steup is dead silent also.
