Finally got a chance to ice fish with Mallardtone Man- James,,,,, After a few hours in the shanty, and putting on his secret weapon James wanted to have a "mini tournament" against me to see who could catch the most fish in a 15 minute period. We agreed that the looser had to put up a post announcing the results. Well, seeing that I am the one making the post, you guessed it, I lost. James beat me something like 7 or 8 to 1......

Mallardtone Man Beats IFN

Good job James!!!!!, I'll leave it up to you to tell ALL the details........

Wow Mike, I wasnt sure you were going to make good with the post  , I know it had to be rough getting beat by a "greenhorn". Lol. Thanks again for taking me out, I had a great time. It was worth the drive up on unplowed roads.

Now we just have to get on some clear water and really work the dekes. I took your advice and went home and cut down a couple of my black styrafoam handle rods (very similar to yours), and put some 1.99 mini reels on em. I will be interested to try that method on those tight lipped fat gills and crappie on my lake.

I wanted to let you know that as of now I am still on for Sun. I will give you a call tonight about the wild game dinner.

Now for a short report: We were planning on launching the permanent shanty on Sat, but because of high winds decided just to fish the canal instead. I got there a little late, and we still had to buy bait and what not. Made a stop on the way home, and then another on the way to the spot, and we were fishing by 11:30-12:00. We fished untill 3 or so and ended up with approx 10-15 keeper gills with alot of s going back. Went back to the house and tumbled em', along with a few fish of Mike's from the other day. I ended up getting outta there at about 5:00 after getting my car stuck in the 2' of snow accumulated in the driveway. Mike very graciously let me have his fish from the other day so I would have a nice bucket to take home . We were getting em on green teardrops and spikes mostly. Mike had a few pike in his hole, and even hit one nice one with the spear, but it managed to get off.

As for the mini tournament. Yes, I won :D , but the odds were in my favor. I was running 2 rods to Mike's one, and for a few mins he was messing around trying to spear a pike.
