I always use a safety harness while in my stand. This year however, I was setting up my tree stand before season, and a tree step snapped off. I fell about 5 feet before I could squeeze the tree enough to stop myself. I was so freeked I had to sit at the base of the tree for a while. I got to thinking, I'm never harnassed when I climb to the stand. What's the best way to get around this. I've heard people talk about a climbing rope?? Next year I intend of being safer than I was this year. Thanks for any help you can give

I use a Seat O The Pants full body harness with a lineman's style attachment for hang on stands ,but I might have to try out the rope line attachment instead .

There was a newish company at the ATA show Is wa....I though it was called "Fall arrest" but can't find a dang thing on it now.

It was pretty slick though. It looked like a 1'x1.5' box that strapped to the tree above your stand. Had a nylon belt coming out and a BIG clip on the end. Worked just like a seat belt in your auto. To quick a release and it stopped cold.

Other than that it just took up slack as you climbed up.

Let me see if I can track down more....
