Here's what I use when sitting on a 5 gallon bucket - picked one up at a Sport Show a number of years ago - works great to help prevent "bucket back".

It's called the Nada Chair SportBacker (and NO, the model is not included).

Here's a link to where I found them for sale:

That looks like it might work well, but I don't know about the price tag -- $45 yikes. For $15 more you can get the Keeper's Deluxe Ice Fishing Chair which has a back rest.

Actually, looks like it's currently onsale @ Cabelas so it would only be $5 more.

The Gandermountain Utica store used to have something similuar to what your looking for. It was a Seat with that was foldable and made of wood that sad on top of your 5 gal. bucket. It was perferct, But since im so cheap and pretty handy with my hands I snuck my digital camera in there and took enough pictures of it to make one in some of my spare time. if and when I ever get some. These made sitting on a bucket so much more comfortable. When I get home from work i will post some pictures that i took of this contraption.

Rich,
Nice lookin rig but I dont see any beverage holder?

UnkaD,
I dont have a link to Ebay (*Not allowed at work) but there was a guy that had a folding chair set up that sat on top of a five gallon pale. My Ebay search was for; "Ice Fishing". It was pretty cool looking, $15 "Buy it now"!

Look closer at the middle photo!

Youngbuck -- You will most likely really like this. I've got a buddy who's had one for a couple years and he really likes it.

The only reason I haven't bought one is because my Shappell shanty has molded-in rings to hold buckets in place and this contraption is too big to fit in there...

I bought a "Stadium Seat" style cushion at Bass Pro. Haven't had the chance to try it out yet. It's a lightweight cushion that has a strap on either side connecting the seat part to the back part. I won't be able to lean back and take a nap but it should give just enough support to take the strain off my lower back.

I also have one of those strap contraptions that I bought years ago. When my back gets bad once in a while I still use it. Works great!

Try using a "JETSLED". They have info on how to tip it up for a backrest. I seen it at Bass Pro a couple of years ago, but never used it. Also, get yourself a 7 gallon bucket! Seen them at Selfredge bait store. Good Luck

Hi! I never made a post before but I know know what it is like sitting on a bucket all day so I made this bucket top seat a couple weeks ago. I have a picture but can't figure out how to insert it in the post. I was able to get it in gallery if you look there. It is easy to make and I think anyone can copy it by looking at the picture.

That wooden seat looks HEAVY!!! ... I usually bring along a folding camp chair nowadays if I'm gonna do a lot of sitting .... put the Strike Sensors on the Slammers, kick back and catch a few Z's in the Frabill. I mainly use the Nada seat when weight and walking distance pulling a heavy sled are a factor.

Its not heavy at all. No way do they weigh more than a camp chair

Dick's sells a seat similar in design to what fish posted.

It's hard plastic and has a padded seat.

$15

It's worked out great for me so far this year.

Fishcapades, that looks just like the one I saw on ebay! As far as weight that one looks like it could be made of cedar? If so it would be much lighter than pine or a hardwood.

Matt's idea of a folding chair is a good one. I usually pack a "bag chair" when I remember too! For icefishing I'd suggest getting the one with out arm rests, those one's are kinda constricting with all your cold weather gear on. Also better for jigging and reaching. Most have a pretty long strap on the bag so if your walking and dont have a sled you can throw it over your shoulder, they are really light. Another attactive feature is the price, the "old style" ones w/o armrests can be found for as little as $5.00!

First of all thanks for all the ideas looks like I'll be making one of the wood ones when I have time from work and not fishing :yikes: . How do the wood ones attach to the bucket?
Northwoods I'll be bringing my quad down after the Tawas Bay Fishing/Drinking excursion on the weekend of Feb. 18th. That Seaweed has issues............ :yikes:  :help: :16suspect :dizzy:

I go with the basick styrafoam taped to the bucket lid....with a hole cut into the top for fishing poles and fish to go into....If i am sitting on a bucket...I am traveling lite and will be on the move....bucket, poles, auger...thats it...no extra weight!!.....If it,s cold enough to be in a shanty ...well then I have the trap and I am all set with the seat !

Here is a picture of the bottom detail and another of how the seat folds and packages in the bucket. It isn't that heavy. I tried to use cedar for the entire seat but it made it wider in the folded position and the support for the back kept splitting at the bolted joint if you leaned back. So I used oak and it seems to work great. All you have to do is open the seat and set it on top. I also use a 6 gallon bucket so I sit higher. Hope this helps. I am going to try to insert the pictures this time. If it doesn't work just look in the gallery.
